Fantômas - Delìrium Còrdia - 28-Apr-06 10:48 AM
This is so heavy. Epic in scale, hugely detailed, flitting between spooky whistles and guitars, metal, scat, washes of digital noise, some sections Ennio Morricone would be proud of, meticulously programmed and executed. Definitely one of Mike Pattons greatest creations (along with most of the other Fantômas records admittedly).
Mr. Fingers - Washing Machine - 12-Sep-05 03:47 PM
Everyone speaks so highly of "Can You Feel It?" and sure, its a classic old house track, but for me "Washing Machine" is the true Larry Heard masterpiece. Four and a half minutes of jarring, uncompromising acid madness, incredibly ahead of its time. Its terse drum machine stutters are direct precursors to detroit techno, and at a time when it was so easy to use a 303 to create music, and things started to become very samey, it stands out as fresh, original and highly infectious.
Black Devil - Disco Club - 08-Aug-05 01:37 AM
This is an unbelievably amazing record. Fair play to Rephlex for the re issue, I cant believe that anyone could have conjured it up. H Friend is totally unreal, amazing messed up moving vocals and wacky synth lines, just phenomenal.
Moodymann - I Can't Kick This Feelin When It Hits / Music People - 31-Jul-05 04:56 PM
The sheer joy you feel when the track moves from silky strings to raw tough disco is indescribable. This is my favourite moodymann record, a perfect summation of his musical ideals and influences into one epic beautiful house record.
Laurent Garnier - Unreasonable Remixes - 25-Jul-05 04:22 AM
The Germ remix is the pick of the bunch here. Proper quirky little house thing, which bounces along with some nice ripping synth sounds coming in, and a wicked breakdown, which could have turned out to be a bit over-the-top, but works brilliantly. I heard it played out at House Of God once too, sounds great on a big system.
The Ashley Beedle remix of "Man With The Red Face" is pretty good, adds some broken beats over the familiar bassline and sax flourishes. The Dave Clarke remix of "Greed" is fairly horrific, and faintly ridiculous.
