Soul Oddity - Tone Capsule - 12-Jan-06 08:25 AM
Soul Oddity is, well, odd. It's electro with the typical electro beat and a sound that seems to be generated under water – out of this world experience guaranteed. It's not dance music; it's quite demanding, actually. There are some fluid tracks (Little Alien), but generally this isn't something I'll be returning to often. But this music is no doubt original and unique.

Doc Martin - Fabric 10 - 22-Jul-05 08:51 AM
What a gem. This mix quenches your thirst for music even when you are sporting a giant headache. Medium paced house music from start to finish, that really isn't suitable for partying but rather for listening in solitude. Magnificent melodies, no big breaks or anything extravagant, a fair share of vocals, but still not commercial. I do agree with the previous comment - the sax solo does tend to get on your nerves. It's the only thing keeping me from giving this a maximum mark. Must have. 9/10

Adam Beyer - Essential Underground Vol. 09 - EU09: Stockholm - 14-Jul-05 08:30 AM
After hearing Beyer's mix on Turbo, I really didn't expect much from this release. Actually I really don't know why I even bought this. But this release quickly became my favourite mix of 2005.

Disc 1 is a techno, tech house and some electro oriented one. Compared to Beyer's previous mixes it is more inspiring. It kept me standing next to the speakers just reading and re-reading the tracklist.

Disc 2 in slower, more of tech house and deep house style and it took me a while to really get it. This mix, however, left a lasting impression on me. Almost a year after it came out, I still can't get enough of this one.

A detailed description cannot be given here. Just know that this is a release worthy of your time and money. If you like it, make sure to check out his Fabric outing as well. It countinues in the direction indicated here with a more minimal tone. Outstanding.

Swayzak - Groovetechnology v1.3 - 21-Nov-04 07:15 PM
I first bought this release expecting a more electro, electro-pop oriented music and was at first disappointed. But a second listen gave me a crash course in minimal and I was hooked. This is minimal at its best with a healthy dose of funky and groovy additives. The mixing is nothing special - actually the tracks merely overlap for a few seconds. But the track selection is second to none. Terrific. 9/10. (I also strongly recomend Craig Richards' "Fabric 15" and with some reservations Akufen's "Fabric 16" release.)

Swayzak - Dirty Dancing - 21-Nov-04 06:25 PM
Being a huge fan of the Swayzak duo I was totally shocked when I heard this. Trashy synth-pop with very little innovation and awful lyrics. Quite far from the minimalism which Swayzak has been associated with or even quality synth-pop like Fischerspooner, Adult, Felix or DMX Krew. The change in orientation shouldn't have been a surprise - the Himawari release already pointed in this direction, altough it still retained a great deal of Swayzak trademark quality and style which went totally missing here. The only track worth mentioning is "I Dance Alone", but it is far too litle to justify purchasing this album. It would have been better if they had released this under another name and said: "This is our more commercial side. An experiment, really, just for fun". However, it looks as though I'm alone on this one. Sad. 3/10.
