808 State - Newbuild

 On 4 April 2008 I met Graham Massey in Los Angeles. Massonix was opening for Autechre on their american tour for Quaristice. We spoke about Newbuild and he told me that like the recent Quadrastate reissue on Rephlex, half of the Newbuild cd was mastered from a clean vinyl pressing. Graham asked me if i could tell if this was obvious. We agreed it wasn't and concluded that Rephlex had indeed lovingly remastered Newbuild.
The liner notes of the cd reveal: "the master tape, long-since disintegrated, was nicked out of a skip from the back of the bbc, manchester. It had been spliced and diced heavily enough to get binned, even before 808 got their hands on it."

 The first time i heard the title track was when i saw him open his live set with it in los angeles, april 2004. My mind was already somewhere else, but this one pushed it much, much further than before. When i bought this twelve-inch, i played it for everybody i possibly could (and i'm no dj). It was a cultural event for me. Four years later i still think that tundra 4 has not been surpassed by anything else i have heard. Incredible. My guess is the 4 is for 2004?

 I first heard the preview of this album from the official site whilst on holiday in edinburgh. It previewed each track in horrendous 16kbps quality mp3 format! Soon after I got the cd.
I have enjoyed every album I have heard by this guy and I must say the production on this collection pleases me the most by far!!! Plus its lots of fun to listen to. Puts me in a funny mood. I think so many musics are far too serious for their own good.
Unique 3 - Invasive Signals

 Edzy gave me his personal copy at the release party in edinburgh, scotland on 22 october 2007. Personally-i love it! i would reccommend it to any dance music lover. There are a few tracks which feature the vocal talents of Adele Collins, sister of the album producer Edzy Collins. There are also some quality instrumental tracks here.
These are actually my favourite of the bunch. As for fans of the first unique 3 album, this one will NOT disappoint! | ||||
