The original mix is a great example of soulful NY house music. Good percussion, and a superb hook via an organ lead. The standout is Tedd Pattersons edit; a really strong DJ tool with a tough, tribal yet minimal drum section and E-Mans constant scat stylings on top.

Francois take on the past twenty-five years of dance music in NYC is a broad reaching studio mix. The track selection is as disparate as James Brown and Basic Channel; Jazz, Funk, Afro-Latin, Disco, Hip-Hop, House, Techno and Drum n Bass all get nearly equal parts. Some of the mixing transitions are a bit forced, but overall there are some truly great song sequences that make this eclectic yet excellent mix worth coming back to. Worth a five.

Just when I thought Id gotten these guys tacked down, they come along with this gem. I know "Magnifique" and the previous "Homage" release are covers of very old and very rare italo/disco numbers, but the quirky backstory and Geist production makes both records very unique.

The original vocal version is a good piece of early 80s electro-influnced uptempo R Then you flip to the B-side. There you find the dub, an uptempo number with great breaks and changes, which is a spectacular example of the 80s tracks that are an obvious influence for modern artists like Metro Area, Daniel Wang, Kerrier District, etc. Timeless!

Many people will tell you about Matthew Herberts brilliance, but Jaime Lidell goes ahead and steals the flame on this single. The original mix is a really nice quirky groover that one would expect from Mr. Herbert, but Jaime goes ahead and does this neo-motown-meets-distorted-soul type thing that absolutely kills. Do yourself a favor...
