Reviews & Discussion:
A true classic techno anthem. Both tracks are slow, dark, hypnotic and make me think of a murky pool for one reason or another. Since the sounds are dark and heavy it's very important not to overpitch these tracks if you don't want to lose its depth. In this aspect it can be compared with Johannes Heil's America. The tracks were remixes of Timeblind's De-Televised on Missile but turned out to be released under Heiko's name. But it doesn't really matter if they are remixes or not, since it's a masterpiece in my eyes.
Of the entire series this must be the weakest one to date. The visual content of Anton Corbijn's videoclips is not super or extraordinary and the music isn't that great that it can carry the DVD. The bonus material is very weak and lacks inspiration.I've really enjoyed the series up until now, it has breathtaking videoclips and commercials but The Work Of Director Anton Corbijn just sucks big time. Although it was fun to see Enjoy The Silence and Heart Shaped Box again.
For me Robert Armani is Chicago and Chicago is Robert Armani. He is the true king of the 909 and the main man behind the entire jump and hardstyle techno scene. Over the years the man made one classic after the next: Ambulance, Hit Hard, Remote Control, Road Tour, Chicago Calling, Burn Out, Grind, Circus Bells,... But on every record he makes you can find abominations as well like: Dusted Dancefloor, Fire Alarm, Watch It, Scrabble,... A lot of people also tend to forget that Robert Armani is very skilled at using the 303. I've met a lot of dj's and artists over the years and it is very strange to say but nobody likes Robert Armani, they either love his records or they hate them, nothing in between. I for one love his style no matter how many cheap and irritating tracks he made/ makes, he still remains my God for all of those anthems you hear at clubs and parties.
I don't like admit it but Emmanuel Top has been a major influence to me. When I started going out I'dd hear his tracks everywhere: on the local radio, on various compilations, parties,... So many years later listening to the album 'Release' is like a flashback to me. Altough most of his tracks sound somewhat dated, production wise his releases are still of a very high level.
A producer that only recently caught my eye. He releases very little but I'm glad to hear that he prefers quality over quantity. The atmosphere or vibe he creates whitin his tracks is breathtaking and shows you how talented this guy really is. Take the track Popis 18b for instance, slow techno track at 120 BPM that is dark hypnotic with synths that take you to the abyss. It is only a matter of time before this guy breaks through and by God he deserves it.
It surprised me a lot that a famous and well respected producer as Jeff Mills had the balls to start up this label. As he still is one of the leading techno producers i bet Mr Mills gets tons of demo's sent to him, but to start up a label especially for those that stand out shows you that this guy really cares for music and not only the big money. Each release on this label is worth checking out. It is techno the way it should sound, sometimes going a little deeper or real hard and dark.
Without a doubt one of the 10 best Tresor releases. It is 100% classic techno and none of the tracks will disappoint you BUT what a bad sound quality. The sound on the record is so faint that you have to seriously increase the volume. It's such a shame because the tracks could have been classics, now the only thing you can play in a club or party are the loops. This record never leaves my case but has never left it either on a party. A rare mistake in the Tresor catalogue.
This guy knows what techno is all about. He keeps his tracks plain and simple yet effective and interesting. Most probably none of his tracks will ever be classics but a Pacou 12" or LP is never money wasted and his records are a must have for any techno DJ. Pacou is a real Twin Peaks freak, so much even he released stuff under the name Agent Cooper (main character in the series and movies). For that alone the guy deserves my eternal respect.
A truly amazing Detroit techno album. I'm not very keen on funky records, I usually find them to be over sentimental, but this is of a whole other league. The string are simply beautifull, put together with a minimal amount of sounds to support them, none of the tracks are overloaded with sounds. The result is the tracks are kept straight but very funky. I bought the album for Nite Gruv but the the other tracks are breathtaking as well, I recognised a lot of the from sets Trish used to play at Fuse club in Brussels when she was resident there. It shows you the state techno was in back in 97. This is truly a first class album. |

What makes Shed stand out from the others is the quality and the productivity of his releases.
