Substance & Vainqueur - 11-Mar-09 03:28 AM
Substance & Vainqueur are the most representative duo for dub techno to me. why? because they are the only guy's related to basic channel and their sound who are still really active. And with active i don't mean producing only. But they bring the sound forward with their very deep, hypnotic live sets. Drowned in delay's and reverberation their sets sound like one long track connected with deep pulsating sounds and effects. This music breathes berlin. I had the chance so see them live three times, and all three sets where amazing. I think this is dub techno in his purest form, you won't come much closer to the source. Hopefully there will be a liveset available soon.

Anthony Red Rose / Inner Vibes (2) - Canta / Mix Up Blender - 11-Mar-09 02:55 AM
Great raw dub reggea record. Heard the track, mix up blender, in a video interview with Moritz von Oswald (Rhythm & Sound), who said that this is one of his favorite tracks. You can hear that this must have been a inspiration for him to start making dub. It has this very raw edge productionwise. The very sharp and clear hi-hats and percussion, the raw bassline, dark melody's, and heavy kick. I really hope to find more records that sound like this. Where most of the dub reggea is kind of happy sounding, this is very dark. The way i like it. Why this track is outstanding for me is the mixdown. If you like Rhythm & Sound and want to know where they are influenced by, then this sure is a record to check out. Mix up blender is the essential track here. Good luck finding it..

Kontakt Der Jünglinge - Kontakt Der Jünglinge 0 - 31-Oct-08 05:46 PM
I am not really into Ambient. The movements in the music are most of the time a bit too slow for me. This live recording by Thomas Köner and Asmus Tietchens is one of the first ambient pieces where i can get into. I have been listening to this in the dark, at night, and i really liked it. Here is something that is moving. sometimes a bassdrum appears far away, hisses, weird sounds and Extremely low frequency's. If i would devide the set in 2 pieces, the second piece of the set would be the most interesting to me.
It's very dark, deep underwater sounding stuff.

Paul St. Hilaire & René Löwe - Faith - 18-Oct-08 01:21 PM
Faith is a timeless recording. It's the kind of track that makes you think about past and future, and the most fundamental things in life. In the sense of athmosphere i would compare it to the track Smile by Rhythm & sound. I Can't listen to it too much, it's a bit i too deep for me.
Airy syntheziser sounds, like we heard more from René löwe under his moniker Vainqueur. I like the Vox mix the most, the vocals make the athmosphere. But the no Vox mix is very good as well, especially if you want to concentrate more on the ambient of the track. I really hope that René löwe will make more of these tracks. Because he, and a few colleagues of him from berlin (basic channel crew and related) are the only producers who are capable of making these kind of deep dub techno tracks. A classic.

Murmur - Undertone - 13-Aug-08 06:01 AM
Meanwhile is a high quality Dub Techno label. All the releases are pretty good.
With releases from dub techno producers like Quantec, Sven Weisemann, Remote_, Bovill, Murmur, and a EP from upcoming dub techno producer Mohlao, quality is quaranteed.
This album, the first meanwhile album, from Murmur is in my opinion one of the most interesting pieces in their catalog.
Minimalistic dubby techno, with a very own approach to all the tracks.
Murmur has his own sound.
The first track on the album, Pansula, is also the longest.
The lenght of the tracks is only thing that bothers me, most aren't longer then 4/5 minutes, and that's exactly the moment when i get really into the dubby grooves. The tracks are sure strong enough to last a little longer.
It's quitte an atmospheric trip this album, the tracks are varied.
From the soft, more happy sounding flex, to the raw bloodclot, the tracks have identity.
I been listening to this good, to the whole album, today for the first time, and i have to say it's refreshing if you like dub techno and listening to it a lot.
Looking forward to future releases from Murmur, and meanwhile releases in general.
