Japanese Telecom - Virtual Geisha Feb 03, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
One of my favourite Drexciyan productions. A quirky release at the more playful end of the electro spectrum. Some of it's a little repetitive for my liking but the production and atmosphere are top notch and unmistakable.
Arpanet - Wireless Internet Feb 03, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
For me the last great release by the remaining half of Drexciya. The LP has an analog warmth typical of a lot of the Japanese Telecom/Dopplereffekt work but feels as if has been honed and refined even more. In some ways the production of the LP is more inviting than the compositions of some of the tracks and per usual there is a bit of wayward rambling throughout with a few overlong tracks. Some tracks aimed at the dancefloor whilst others clearly nowhere near it he fails to instil enough variation to keep my finger from hovering over the fastforward button.
Having said this, I do thoroughly enjoy the LP, more as a background mood enhancer than a focus on the details headphone listen.

It's quite clear there's been a shift in the production techniques used on this LP compared with 'Wireless Internet' and work as Japanese Telecom/Drexciya/et al. This release comes off to these ears much colder and sterile with Arpanet further refining it's technological visions.
Those interested in Autechran machinations will find appeal in this release. For those yearning for the warm analog emissions of his heyday they're long gone. :(
