Danny Tenaglia - Global Underground 017: London - 27-Mar-03 08:00 PM
Very tribal, very funky, very groovy, and VERY VERY good. This is one of my absolute favorite mixes off the Global Underground series. If you havent heard this yet you dont know what youre missing. Danny will show you music you never thought existed.
Danny Tenaglia - Global Underground 010: Athens - 27-Mar-03 07:58 PM
Although I dont agree with the previous comment that Dannys Athens mix is better than his London mix, I will say that this is quite possibly the most cohesive set of tracks in the entire Global Underground series, with John Digweeds Los Angeles mix following close behind. Danny spins us some deep, dark, shallow, and minimal-sounding records, inviting us on a journey through the subterranean. This mix, released in 1998, was a precursor to the flood of Dark Progressive House and Deep Trance tracks that would quickly surface afterwards. John Digweed seems to have been heavily influenced by Danny, releasing his "groundbreaking" (but not so groundbreaking) Global Underground Hong Kong mix, mimicing the same deep and dark vibe.
Standout tracks include Scumfrogs mesmerizing Watersong, Miss Kittins neurotic Frank Sinatra, and Tilts ever-fascinating Seduction of Orpheus. As a whole, there are few mix CDs out that are so fluid. Its almost as if Danny is weaving a story through the music he plays. Any serious listener knows that the order of the songs played AS WELL AS the track selection are what make a DJ mix great. This is what separates the amateur from the professional.
This CD is not for everyone and its not for every occasion. Some tracks may bore the hell out of the listener with over 3 minutes of the same repetitive beats, but listen to it late at night right before bed, with all the lights out, and it will work its magic. This is a very enjoyable journey through the dark, brought to you by one of the most talented disc jockeys on the planet.
Junkie XL - Beauty Never Fades / Breezer - 26-Mar-03 01:35 AM
Not bad, not bad at all. Great job by everybody involved: Junkie XL, Sasha, and Tiesto. All tracks on here are GREAT. Beauty Never Fades has some dark female vocals with some twisted Progressive beats, while Breezer is like the polar opposite - sunny and euphoric. The Tiesto remix is a treat, giving Breezer a driving beat that doesnt interfere too much with the light melody.
Pete Heller And Smokin Jo* Present Sleepers (2) - Fishbone - 26-Mar-03 01:31 AM
Interesting name for a record, but whats in a name anyhow? This House track is absolutely delightful!! Very raunchy beats with an ENORMOUS buildup that puts the crowd in an absolute frenzy.
Tall Paul - It's Alright - 26-Mar-03 01:29 AM
I think I play this record at almost every other party I DJ at... its just THAT good and it never gets old. Full of pumping beats, energy, and a catchy sample that yells "Hows everyone doin? Doin alright?? ALRIIIIGHT!!!" Both sides are very good, although I prefer the Dave Aude remix to the original.
Lets just say Tall Paul got it right on this one in every way possible.
