Eat Static - 09-May-09 08:49 PM
In 1988 & 1989 i fucking hated dance music. Id only been exposed to lame comercial acts. Then one night in 1990 i went to see Ozric Tentacles at Club Dogs 5th Birthday Bash, an all nigher at The Rocket in London. Eat Static were on the bill, a band id never heard before. It was a techno live act made up from the drummer (Merv Pepler) and the keyboard player (Joie Hinton) from Ozrics. Poison Electric Head, Ozric Tentacles and Eat Static was the line up. The night featured live acts and DJs and fantastic light shows. Back then i was more of an acid head and Eat Static blew my fucking mind. Eat Static converted me to dance music. Unbelievable live.
Senser - 09-May-09 06:04 PM
A real band, playing real instruments a friend once leaned over and said at the Ozrics Christmas Bash in Kilburn, 1991. Of course wed all caught Senser live before, The Senser Sound System, their first release on cassette had been a staple diet of ours for months. This band kicked ass. Shouting what the UKs alternative scene could relate to saw them as a staple diet on the festival scene in the early 90s. Their fusion of heavy guitar chords, bass player, a DJ cutting it up, live drums and 2 rappers was an instant hit on saturday party nights, they were mostly first on the bill. Finally in 1994 they released Stacked Up their first lp. The bands peak.
Holy Ghost Inc. - Falling Into Love House One / In The Groove Of The Ghost - 28-Mar-09 10:56 PM
One of my fav records ever. Falling Into Love House One from 1990 with its groovy bassline and persistant snare. A somehow beautiful latin babe declairs your falling in love joined at first by Art Lukems luved up smile and sweet high pitched vocals as he finds the perfect harmony and delivers his love in the most fitting style as perfect tones and a distant saxaphone fall all around. Then out of nowhere a menacing piano appears as Art declairs I hate it and then we fall into the darkness of man. Art suddenly switches from the paranoia he has created by stating God says, go get it a motion of love as sweet piano chords fall all around. Followed by Arts insistance I hate it!!! By now the persistant snare and groovey bassline have taken hold and you know your onto a winner. The piano bursts for all to see and Art just takes it to another level with his ad libs. Some people say they are too old some are too young some are too fat some are too slim some are too tall some are too short and some are born on the wrong side of the track some are this some are that and would you believe some are even born under the wrong star .. god says ... feel declairs Art as the bassline takes hold and the snare shakes your bones, the latin babe comes back and now you know she loves you forever as samples fall around you stating Ive seen things you people wouldnt believe. By now youve fallen into love house one as the latino babe declairs her love for you. The flip In The Groove Of The Ghost starts off with a held chord and a four to the floor beat which soon developes into an eastern sounding keyboard line. This breaks down into groove before a women burts into orgasmic chants of yes!! as Art picks up the mic and starts rambling on about the groove thats gonna get ya. From here on in all the eliments are present and theres no one like Holy Ghost Inc. who can arrange them like this. Propper acid house music, without the acid. Art Lukem .. genius or madman?
Spiral Tribe / Persons Unknown* - Black Plastik - 07-Nov-08 09:56 PM
More commonly known as the Verdict Not Guilty EP. This release helped fund Spiral Tribes flight from the UK, where they were being hounded by the authorities. The title relates to the verdict of not guilty delivered by the courts where 23 members of Spiral Tribe had been charged by the courts of breaking an age old UK law of being a public nuisance for partaking in the Castle Morton free festival which sprang up on Saturday/Sunday 23rd May Bank holiday 1992, Worcestershire UK. The biggest free festival ever, with 25,000 people attending, and one of the last. They were the only sound system there who had charges brought against them, the case lasted 2 years and was reported as the most costly ever for such a crime. I bought this from Spiral Tribe when they were doing a corner of the park from the side of a truck with Bedlam at the Hackney Homeless Festival in Clissold Park, London, in 1994 while i was off my nut on acid. And they definitely had a white label for sale alongside this black label, which ive never found out what it was yet.
As for the music here, solid Spiral tekno.
Unknown Artist - Lost Trax - 21-Mar-08 05:12 PM
The Saturiun System has got to be one of the best techno tracks ever made, lush strings coupled with a burbling acid line. Sounds remind me of Convextion. I wouldnt be surprised if it was Gerard Hanson. Brings a warm glow to my face every time i hear it. Simplistic yet awesome. This shall remain in my box and top ten for a long time. Even people who dont like techno will love this. 5 out of 5.
