Chemical Brothers, The - Hey Boy Hey Girl - 29-Oct-09 10:36 AM
Often hated on by old fuddy duddy new beat people and Belgians that don't have a clue but this tune uses the original 'I Sit On Acid' version by Lords Of Acid in a creative manner and it did came out BEFORE the 'I Sit On Acid 2000' version which shows the similarities even more. It does however also steal some ideas off the 'Funky Shell Toes' EP by a certain bloke named Armand Van Helden. Re-cog-nize children, if you diss the brothers you diss yourself.

Backstreet Boys - The Call - 27-Sep-08 08:15 PM
At the eve of the Neptunes explosion this remix came along, it's so good it makes you respect the Backstreet Boys, go figure. Superthug and Got Your Money had Pharrell's phone ringing off the hook; at 27 he achieved his goal in life: to be the most respected music producer in the world. Some genius at the Jive offices must have thought the Boys were in need of a ghettopass and filed for a Williams & Hugo invoice. This gem got made waaaaay before they could charge 120K a piece but believe me, it's worth millions. I don't now how but the men behind the board make the tacky BB gospelpop sound raw - there's a pounding bassline to keep the bodies moving and every single time I played this out all the girls start screaming when they hear the vocal harmonies. Unbelievable. Add Clipse to the mix and it's a wrap.

Laughing Light Of Plenty - The Rose / Listen Here - 14-Sep-08 09:11 AM
Flawless diamant of a single here with the flip being reminiscent of Ween when they were at the peak of their career going all out to some cheeky white boy funk without overdoing it. The prime mover is located on the A however; "The Rose" sounding quite like, well, The Stone Roses, is a bonafide classic in my book and will help me remember 2008. Despite all the hoopla about WWW records, their output is of a varied quality - the jury is still out on Map Of Africa - but this is perfect ten material. Even advanced jocks will have a hard time moving the floor with these low BPM nuggets but nice songs they are for sure. Buy on sight.

Soft Rocks - 13-Aug-08 01:48 AM
A prime suspect in the balearic revival that went on in the late noughties. Where you and your cousin were busy re-editing a Paradise Garage anthem, the SR boys take the time out to dig deep in their vinyl cellars to unearth that bizar oddball record and instead of polishing it, they give it a couple of extra sharp edges. On top of that a lot of thought is put into the packaging aswell, nice sleeves and alladat. The Soft Rocks output never ever dissappoints.

Depth Charge - Blue Lipps - 08-Jun-08 07:49 PM
Arguably the most accessible and funky DC record because it basicly is a distorted re-edit of Lenny Williams "You Got Me Running". No kung-fu, no football and no spaghetti westerns on the A-side, this is just plain old four-to-the-floor fun in a twisted J. Saul Kane way. The Deadly Blow track is stuttering, bubbling Octagon Man material and the dub is a decent way to anounce closing time. Only for DJ's that dare to go where no one else goes...
