Josh Wink - Profound Sounds Vol. 1 - 22-Mar-08 11:31 PM
Josh Wink takes you on one of his journey's, abbreviated to fit on a mix cd. Typically you would expect to embark on this trip for upwards of at least 4 hours, but Wink manages to keep the integrity of his sets in the limited time. He also drops his a cappellas all through out the mix to spice things up.
Early on he starts off with deep, dubby and minimal grooves that have that hypnotic feel to them. Especially the Persuader and Gez Varley tunes.
He skillfully mixes that into more housey territory where he masterfully starts raising the intensity of the mix. The Dj Dozia and Blaze tracks are the standouts.
By the time "Black Odyssey - Sweat" hits, he's got you bobbing your head to peaktime techno grooves of Christian Smith & John Selway, Sound Associates and Percy X.
Josh Wink once again proves why his dj sets are memorable by blurring the lines between house and techno.

John Thomas - Roots - 06-Jun-07 01:26 PM
"Jacks" is basically a remix of Jeff Mills "Call of the Wild". All the elements are there, the tribal drums, and the looping sample throughout the whole track.
A classic loop based tribal techno record updated with better sound than the original.

Peter Benisch - Soundtrack Saga (Remixes Part Two) - 05-Jun-07 09:53 PM
This Adam Beyer remix was one of the first I remember hearing that was more on the deep, melodic side of his productions. With its lush, deep atmospherics, melodic strings and the tough Swedish beats he's known for.
This remix of this Peter Benisch tune may have been a precedent for his Truesoul label.

Misstress Barbara - Gloria Grande - 01-Jun-07 08:52 AM
If you like Latin influenced techno in the same vein as Tomaz and Filterheadz or "Against Winter" by Dj Preach, this is a must have in your collection.
Gloria Grande is a merengue song for techno dancefloors and it does it well. All the elements are there, the spanish lyrics, tribal beats and a good breakdown.
On the flipside, Stanny Franssen does his own interpretation with one of his devastating breakdowns. Stanny adds a distorted synth line to the breakdown and somehow manages to make it a bit darker, but still funky at the same time. You also get a good dose of Stanny's sick filter and echo effects during the intro, breakdown and outro.

Pimp Squad - Pimp Style - 29-May-07 11:22 AM
Devilfish's alter ego do their take on the popular "You took my love" sample. A good party track with the sample repeating through out the whole track. It also has the tough beats Devilfish is known for with crisp hi's, a tough compressed kick drum and a funky bassline to go along with it.
On the flip its typical filtered disco fodder you most likely would expect to hear coming out of Chicago, nothing special on this side.
