Simulant Oct 28, 2008
MY GOD what happened to these guys??? 4 years ago I was primed for the 4th release, listening to the samples on their webpage... then nothing. The page was gone and so were they. Do they realize what they have done, both in what they created and in how they disappeared? Those first two simulant releases were nothing short of ground breaking- look at what they sell for today. Are they watching from a distance, enjoying the effect they had on the electro community, laughing at all the heads who are drooling for more? Surely they are heads too? Or, did he (they, who knows) just bang out some tunes and drop it when they got bored? I refuse to believe that. Did life circumstances force them to abandon ship? Either way, what they have created is bigger than they are, and they need to (at the very least) put that 4th release out. Gems like this are so few and far between, and we have waited long enough. Sadly, I think we will continue to wait.

UGH.
I purchased this album during a visit to london in 2001; didn't even listen to it in the store (smallfish)... the guy at the front counter just told me to get it, in his eyes it was the album of the year. Man, that seems like such a long time ago!

I of course began to play it, and while the music was incredible, the vocals really got on my nerves. But, the more I listened I saw how well they actually fit in with the music and completed the tracks. There are a couple without vocals as well (sunrays, midnight rondevous). Anyways, after 7 years of having this album I still listen to it often. Stinson created a certain magic with his analogue; you really get the impression that the gear was an extension of him. He was able to take what would normally be cold and mechanical and turn it into warm, emotional, human compositions that still inspire me to this day.

The LP is well worn at this point, but thanks to the world of FLAC digital downloads I will have it forever preserved in pristine quality. This, like most of Stinson's work, has a timeless quality that will make it sound fresh for years and years.
