Broken Glass - Style Of The Street - 31-May-08 03:22 AM
Did Broken Glass bite the opening rhyme on this record?
I think they might have done - the opening rhyme about being at home watching telly, bored, and imagining being on tour and getting girls is very similar to a rhyme on Funky Four + 1 'That's The Joint' which was released on Sugarhill in 1980. There are slight variations between the two rhymes, but lyrics can't be reproduced here so you'll have to check the two tunes to see what I mean!!
Coldcut - Beats + Pieces - 15-Mar-06 05:50 AM
This is the original release of this incredible cut and paste tune. I'm fairly certain that this pressing is the thickest piece of vinyl that I own - as for the music, the whole thing is just incredible - the highlight for me being the scratch up of 'The Four Seasons'.
Derek B used the b side to good effect cutting up transformer style for 'Bad Young Brother'.
Winx* - Don't Laugh - 05-Feb-06 01:25 PM
A masterclass in building a minimal acid/techno tune from bassline up. Considering it pretty much consists of one bassline, a bassdrum, hi hats, 1 synth noise and a sample of a maniac laughing it is very effective.
Desert Storm - Desert Storm / Scoraig 93 - 05-Feb-06 11:02 AM
I love the track 'Scoraig '93'. I was lucky enough to have some dealings with the Desert Storm crew during the 1990s and cannot say enough positive things about them.
The way ' Scoraig '93' builds and builds, the acid line, the breakdown - it's all pretty much perfect - probably much like the free parties that inspired it. I wish I had been there.
Various - Neighbors - 29-Jan-06 02:24 PM
In my opinion this is one of the strongest releases from Woody McBride's labels - and a couple of the tracks still sound fresh to me today.
The first - Fred Fresh: '5 Mouths' is a belter, proper US techno without a chessy acid line in sight - no trance trousers required. This track is featured on Richie Hawtin's Mixmag Live cd from 1995.
The Astrocat and Kenny S is similarly inventive - really funky, straight up electronic music.
Woody McBride throws in 'Teacher' under his 'ESP' moniker and is no slouch of a track either.
