Arthur Baker And The Backbeat Disciples Feat. Robert Owens - Silly Games - 18-Mar-08 05:51 PM
One of those rare stand-out tracks that when it came out managed to capture the attention of those into the the rave/early hardcore scene (thanks to the raw sounding breakbeat and bassline underpinning the track), as well as those more into the soulful side of house, thanks to the unmistakably emotive vocals from Robert Owens, and warm pad instrumentation. I'm talking about the Bonesbreak Club Mix here.
A perfect example of the raw and smooth working in harmony together.
Also, one of many tracks to use the "no more mind games" sample from Liz Torres.
PS The best version to get is the UK release on Breakout (promo only), as the pressing is much better than the City Limits one, most of which are badly pressed.

Lisa Newberry - I Believe - 26-Jan-08 09:09 PM
A track of pure sublime beauty...I'm talking about the Magic Juan Mix. Ethereal, spiritual, and ultimately uplifting. The sensual, hypnotic vocals of Lisa Newberry, combined with the intricate atmospherics, haunting pads and rolling bassline, make this an extremely accomplished and unique production, especially for the time.
Listen to it with your eyes closed, and lose yourself in emotion. Wait for the stuttered vocal effects about 2 minutes in. It sends shivers down my spine every time I listen to it. Absolutely timeless.
Sax - Give Yourself To Me - 19-Aug-07 10:25 PM
Classic Todd Terry in the mix...I'm talking about the "Deep House Mix", which for me is the standout, and the track that was played at the time.
Trademark Todd beats and arrangement...in my opinion, one of his finest out of the many top tracks he's produced.
A hidden gem...if you're a Todd Terry fan, you should have this in your collection.
A Man Called Adam - Earthly Powers / Techno Powers - 06-Aug-07 10:06 AM
What a tune indeed! I first discovered Earthly Powers whilst listening to a London pirate house radio station in 1989 (think it was Centreforce)...which luckily I was taping, making it easier to ID the tune later. In those days, the pirates used to play a much broader range of music...mixed into this went Charvoni's rendition of "Always There"...
I love this whole song altogether, and it still sounds totally unique...but the one part of the song that literally blew me away when I first heard it is the mad, deep, trippy, flute breakdown about 5 minutes into the song...this puts the "acid" into acid jazz!!!
