Dial - 05-Apr-08 03:00 AM
I've always had a soft spot for Dial ever since I got caught into the dark grooves of those early releases by Carsten Jost and Sten, who are both founders of this amazing label.

The usual formula they used at this time was to basically take a set of dark atmospheric pads or strings and mix it with a bunch of simple beats and a very strong bass line, while keeping the whole thing as minimal as possible. Worked great every single time!

If you're into minimal techno with a strong emphasis on melody, I couldn't recommend you more to check these early releases (up to 2003) and why not have a look on the more recent output, because Dial has definitely managed to keep its quality pretty high.

LFO - LFO (Remixes) - 04-Nov-03 03:33 AM
Well, I'm kinda disappointed by this release. I wasn't able to get the original WARP release, so I decided to grab that one, thinking the original mix on it would satisfy myself.

That original extended mix is a bit boring compared to the great "Leeds Warehouse" mix. For example, don't expect those nice sub bass work, it's almost the same loop which is played during 10 minutes...

But the real shame is about the Uli Poeppelbaum mix. It turns out to be a lame trance remake... Moreover, Uli shows us that he knows how to make music by ripping off the first phrase of "Thomas Heckmann - Auge Um Auge". Check that song by yourself. I find this actually quite shocking because that small drumloop has nothing particular. If this guy ain't even able to do this, he shouldn't be releasing music.

Other songs are ok. Overall, it's a release that will probably please trance and progressive djs, but it's also a pretty commercial release that shoudln't have been done to my mind as it doesn't respect the original work by LFO.
