Martian - The Opening EP - 19-Feb-07 09:49 PM
The reason why "The Opening EP".. Its not written anywhere on the record or the cover, but on the old Spirit Zone web-site it was named this way, in there discography. the web-site (as with the label) are now defunct.
This track opened the VOOV Experience festival, july 2000. -Thats why its named this way. the track itself are almost 15 minutes long, and have a very long tribal intro and build up. A deep and progressive tribal trancer Very nice choice for opening up a festival in this caliber.
The festival are closely linked to Spirit Zone as it is DJ Antaro who are the man behind both. He decided to shut the label down five years after this release, and concentrate only on the festival. Its very sad to lose a label like this, who were providing the goa scene with one delight after another (both trance and chill), from 1994 to 2005.
North Central Positronics - Smell The Glove - 25-Jan-07 08:00 AM
This is a stunning record! Simon Posford teams up with Ben Kempton, who also had his appearence on the notorious L-S-D track. Beside that im not familiar with Ben. The third part of this act is someone who calls himself Factor E, and for me he is totally unknown. Anyway, the work they put up with here is simply amazing. It is from the time when everything started, and i dont know why it werent released on dragonfly, cause this is the sound we got here. Not too heavy not to fluffy, but somewhere in between. Smell The Glove is a melodious track with some acidic but pleasent sounds.Towards the end there is a break-down, where they have put in some kind of a flute, gives the track another emotional turn. And then they take us back on track. The Great Bear is also a really great track, and like Smell The Glove it has these acid sounds and melodies. The Slight Return mix wich is a pure ambient version of Smell The Glove, is just as good, but for another experience. Sit back, close your eyes and.. well, we all know how it is.
It really is a huge disappointment that these tracks werent licenced to any other labels or some compilations at least, cause they deserved much more attention than this.
Banco De Gaia - Heliopolis (The City Of The Sun Mixes) - 13-Jul-06 06:11 AM
A nice downtempo/trance record from back in the day. With the appearence of Andy Guthrie who are most known for his goatrance works in groups like Medicine Drum, Prana, 100th Monket etc. It has a sneaky reference to Future Sound Of London's 'Papua New Guinea' and it sounds more or less like a cover. But as i said its a really nice piece of music we got here. I can recommend this for the lazy days in the sun.
4½/5
Blyant & Tusch - 26-Jun-06 11:48 AM
"Blyant & Tusch" (danish for pencil & marker) started as a joke. Jake being skinny as a pencil, and Michael was the fat marker. It also had a "international" sounding to the name, so they used it for a few releases.
Bruno Sanchioni - The New Age - 22-Jun-06 12:03 AM
We all know how it is, you flick through your old dusty records, and you get your eyes on one of those you havent heard for ages almost. Thats what i did with this one just now. Even though these mixes are nice in its own It had never gotten my full attention, because i will always prefer the original "The Age Of Love" (or Jam & Spoon's "Watch Out For Stella Club Mix" rather). This should not be breaking news to anyone, that this is a update/remix of that track, and you can easily identify when you hear it.
But what had totally slipped my mind is "Bim In A Trance". What an awesome(!) track, filled with sunshine and great melodies. A warm and nostalgic, even a little goa'ish track. If you ever come across this, dont hesitate to pick it up.
Overall this is a decent record with some ok mixes, but 5/5 for Bim In A Trance alone.
