ASC - Windchime / Offworld Tides / Stature - 11-Jul-08 01:24 AM
By far my favourite Amen tune this side of the millennium and in my opinion the finest work from ASC to date, this one is something else.
A dreamy intro of blissed out sounds sets the scene before smashing into some utterly tearing drum programming which make this one guaranteed to move bodys as well as minds. I first heard this track back in early 2004 when a friend of mine DJ Submerge passed me a demo mix for the station we were running at the time, and despite starting to search for it straight away it wasnt until late in 2007 that I finally managed to track down a copy.. it really is that rare! Even the greedy old record collector in me thinks this one deserves another pressing, its far too beautiful to be kept locked away in the collections of the few that are lucky enough to have one.
As I write this, a remix has just been released on the Covert Ops label which stays pretty close to the original is well worth checking out, for me though this version is untouchable. Truly incredible stuff.
Ant Miles - Visitations Part 3 - 10-Apr-08 01:04 PM
Part 3 of Ants 2007 Visitations LP, and the stunning track Set Me Free with Sare X. She is a great vocalist as she proved before on Concept 2s Twisted Funk but this is her best yet, such a big hook once its in your head theres no escape. Ant doesnt let the side down with probably the tightest bit of production on the LP, yet another classic from the maestro.
Smoke Screen with Boneshaker is another very good track on this EP. Worth hunting for a promo copy due to a slight pressing defect with the released version, a few releases that came through SRD seemed to have a slight buckle at this time but the promos of this managed to escape it.
Origin Unknown - Eastern Promise EP - 09-Apr-07 06:18 AM
By far the hardest to find 12 in the RAM catalogue, this unreleased EP has gone down as one of the rarest and most sought after records in Hardcore / Drum n Bass history. The reason for it not getting past the promo stage is unknown, but the most likely reason is probably a sample clearance issue. It is thought that no more than 250 copies were pressed, so when a copy comes up for sale now it commands vast sums of money with RAM collectors across the globe fighting to get their hands on a copy to complete their collections!
Well worth tracking down, my personal favourite being the second track on the A side, but all four tracks are solid. This was the first and last truly Hardcore sounding release by Origin Unknown before they followed it up with the darkside masterpiece that made them a household name in dnb circles, The Touch / Valley of the Shadows.
Busta Rhymes - Woo-Hah!! Got You All In Check - 30-Oct-06 12:24 AM
Origin Unknown get busy with Busta’s Summer 96 smash and the result has got to be one of the heaviest Drum n Bass remixes of a Hip Hop track there is after Zincs Shook Ones RMX. Choosing not to over complicate things, Ant and Andy create what at first may seem to be quite a simple dancefloor roller, but listen closer and their skill at manipulating beats really shines through, break layered upon break so perfectly it sounds as if they were made for each other.
Every DJ on the circuit was smashing this at the time and due to the originals popularity it became a big favourite with the crowds as well, remember Randall rinsing it at Tribal Gathering ’96 with GQ strutting the stage giving it Ya Ya Yaaaa down the mic back in the day! Should of gone down as a classic but sadly the pressing quality on the released version wasnt quite up to the job with 3 tunes per side taking all the weight out of it, leaving either cutting a plate from the CD release or finding this rare promo as the only option if you want to properly experience this tune on wax. Well worth tracking down, good luck though because I have heard from a reliable source that there are only 100 copies!
Chris .Su* - Satisfy / Try Again - 18-Dec-05 12:46 PM
Quite simply an amazing 12. Full on dancefloor business, uplifting to the extreme. New dnb doesnt get any better than this! Turn to the flip for a deeper but equally beautiful rollout.
Cant go wrong with this one, bag it if you can!
