Reviews:
Spesimen - Archaeology EP - 04-Sep-03 03:24 AM
Four deep and deadly minimal funk jams. Very tight production throughout. Particular favourite of mine is Egyptia with its far eastern flavour. A well rounded electro release out of Austria that fails to disappoint.
Unspecified Enemies - Multi Ordinal Tracking Unit - 30-Aug-03 06:46 AM
Multi Ordinal Tracking Unit featured on the DJ Bone compilation Subject Detroit. This track is devoted to the whole of side A and is a cutting piece of machine funk with a suitably loud pressing.
On side B the runout groove simply reads TRACK - DIAGRAMS - MICROPOLITICS which is confusing as there are five distinct tracks?
First track will go down well with any hard techno dj - a filtered 909 number which is inventive and full of energy.
Track two is a short bass, snare & kick drum skit which makes me wish I had two copies.
Same with the track three - a short minimal techno workout with some scratching over it which sounds better than my description! :)
Track four is another short 909 skit followed by track 5 a blindingly simple yet hauntingly emotive dub electro track which has some distinctly Basic Channel dub stylings, while some deft use of reverb is applied to a vocoder intoning Counterattack.
A pleasant close to a devastatingly good ep. High quality control seems to be Counterattacks hallmark. Full respect.
Counterattack - We Can Elude Control - 30-Aug-03 06:19 AM
Excellent vocoder use on this Detroit inspired techno release from the elusive Counterattack crew. They ably demonstrate they know how to run things on this accomplished debut. A worthy addition to any techno collection, find it if you can.
Clatterbox - Clatterbox - 30-Aug-03 06:03 AM
Some quirky, some downright rude the fifteen tracks and interludes crammed on this jam packed two disc set from Clatterbox make this a justifiably sought after release. With excellent production throughout that sounds as fresh as the day it was made. A definitive moment in Clears history and indeed a milestone in UK electronica. Full respect.
Counterattack - Clinamen E.P. - 29-Aug-03 08:54 PM
Very accomplished techno from the Counterattack crew who have been likened to a Welsh Underground Resistance. You can understand why being of a consistently high quality throughout the ep and ably covering many bases along the way. An essential purchase.
