Biosphere - Patashnik Jul 31, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
Geir Jenssen is Biosphere, Biosphere is the soundtrack to the mountains, the frozen sea, the looming winter forest. Cold landscapes and brilliantly crafted waves of sound pour out of this album.

One of his earlier works, Patashnik is full of excellent samples that fit perfectly into the world he has created for this music to live in. In his earlier works as BLEEP he worked with a lot of beats in the material, this is still evident in his earlier work as Biosphere. Not saying that all the songs have a driven line of beats, many are dreamy ladscapes that tug at your imagination.

This is defenitly a must have for any Biosphere fan, and highly reccomended for anyone into Ambient music.
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II Jul 28, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
It is true that the "regular" black edition does sound better, having said that - this album is a true ambient staple. What we have here is personally one of my favourite releases from Mr. Richard D. James (Aphex Twin).

This wonderfully crafted album has a mood all of its own, a shape shifting creation that slowly crawls through your imagination. This album has been my good friend on many late nights in the dark.

There are no actual track names (you can find ones given to them on the internet though, which are generally accepted), there are however pictures taken by none other than the artist himself, that correspond through pie charts to the tracks.

In a supposed interview he mentioned that he wrote some or all of these tracks while in a dream like state or "lucid dreaming" where one is in control of their dream world. If this is true I do not fully know, but it sure sounds like it from listening to the album.

These tracks are mesmerizing, and create their own worlds for you to enjoy. Dark, brooding, hypnotic, this is a real gem for ambient fans. Cherish this one!
Orb* - Orbus Terrarum Jul 21, 2006 (edited over 3 years ago)
This is one of the best releases from The Orb, spanning across 2 wonderful LPs stacked inside a see through jacked - this "map pack" is just the icing on the cake!

They really pushed their own sound with this record, long lush tracks that hold your imagination. Lots of samples thrown in as usual. I dont know if I would reccomend this as a starter for someone who is new to The Orb, but more for the seasoned listener of ambient or "chilled" music. Once into the mind set you will probably be likst most who enjoy The Orb and hear this wonderful album, it is one of my all time favourite ambient type albums. Abstract drums and sounds layered overtop sounds that seem to come alive. A nice bit of variation leads this release away from mediocrity. Enjoy!
