Various - Crunk Hits Vol. 4 - 19-Apr-08 02:55 AM
This is one of those compilations you don't want to admit you actually own. It is full of catchy hooks, call out dance moves, low brow lyrics and fully embodies what has gone wrong with hip-hop in recent years... That being said, this series gets loads of credit for packing some of the more taboo one hit wonders and current trend setting rap artists together into an excellent party series that is for lack of betters words... the "Now That's What I Call Ghetto" collection. This is almost an essential release for the budding hip-hop DJ.

Dannii Minogue vs. Jason Nevins - Touch Me Like That - 12-Apr-08 06:50 PM
Dannii Minogue & Jason Nevins hit it out of the park with the song "Touch Me Like That". They incorporate samples from the song "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real (Mighty Real)", that was made most famous by Sylvester, into a punchy house track with new Dannii Minogue lyrics that give a good pop music take on wanting to have sex with someone... Who, if you are going off the Sylvester original sample will make you feel "mighty real". The only mix that sticks out like a sore thumb on this package is by Fugitives. It's 142 beat per minute tempo out-paces every other mix by a minimum of twelve bpms.

This Australian release is the only place you will get a near complete package of all of the remixes. I am very thankful for it's existence, because of the dubs included (most frequent purchasers of commercial releases know that dubs are normally the first thing cut). In this case, one of the dubs is a standout mix. Soul Seekerz Dub is a must play, and gives the song the largest and darkest face lift. It's gritty and sexy.

Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin' (Remixes) - 11-Apr-08 05:58 AM
I believe this to be a bootleg release, because it is lacking the proper copyright information, or a catalog number on the actual disc... however, this is by far the best collection of remixes that were released for the Scissor Sisters single, "I Don't Feel Like Dancing". This was a great song when Pink Floyd did it, and it's still great with the Scissor Sisters infusing it with an all new Dance/Rock energy. I have nothing but kudos to them for such a great remix, and to their label for picking so many well suited remix producers.

Killers, The - Sawdust - 29-Mar-08 09:54 AM
Most of this material WAS previously released on Killers CD singles or special edition/import versions of their albums... I am all for releasing B-sides albums, but to be quite honest there is a reason why most of these tracks were B-sides and rarities. The songs on the collection are not as crisp, clean, or catchy as the albums they were dropped from. Casual fans should save their money, since this is really a waste. I would recommend purchasing Sam's Town or Hot Fuss instead or digitally putting the cash toward some of their amazing remixes.

Roc Project, The - Never - 11-Mar-08 06:37 AM
The 7 track US release of this track definitely sets itself apart from the rest. It drops both the JCA and DJ Tiesto remixes and leans heavily on the original and Filterheadz mixes to fill the void. It also adds the Johnny Budz & Max Reich mixes that I believe were otherwise unreleased. The only major problem with the US release, is that it completely lacked the Robbie Rivera remix that was released only in US territory... and worse, only on vinyl.

As for the song itself, the Roc Project did an excellent job of being both pop friendly and dance floor faithful. The concept is simple, and the hook is easy to remember, but it is in the production choices that truly take this track to another level. It's haunting, taunting, scornful, and mourning all at once. It can be everything to so many people, and this is exceptionally difficult to create.
