Disko Method - Ghetto Style - 01-Jun-09 06:36 AM
Eddie Matos (half of the DJ / Producers duo Mateo & Matos) delivers one hell of an album. This compilation is a collection of tracks released on 3 earlier EPs dating from the 1998-1999 era. Mateo & Matos are known for their soulfull disco rip off house tracks but on this solo project Eddie took it a bit further. All tracks have "disco-samples-R-us" written all over them but all adding to the effect. The ultimate collection of fat, funky, 4 to the floor sleazy disco house stompers. Feelgood factor 100 out of 100.

Not sure why Glasgow Underground preferred to release this on their more low profile Under The Counter sublabel but these tracks are sheer quality in the genre. Impossible not to smile and not to dance when hearing these tracks. Get it at all cost.

Seekness - The Crack Between The Nothing - 26-Apr-09 06:55 AM
In 1995 Belgium had a free clubbing / music magazine that was called "Behind the scene". It was published as a reaction to the more wide spread magazine OutSoon. OutSoon focused more on clubbing and less on music. In one of the first editions of Behind the scene there was a reader who sent a description of his emotions and a picture of a painting he made while listening to a Seekness album. Yep, Seekness spotted the letter and used his painting for the "The Crack Between The Nothing" artwork.

Eva De Roovere - De Jager - 03-May-08 05:22 AM
After years of collaborating with other groups such as Kadril and Oblomow Eva De Roovere funally decided to go solo. The result is stunning. "De Jager" covers a wide range range of styles that Eva has ran into over the years: pop, folk, rock and a genre known as "kleinkunst". Main characteristic of this production - besides the musical crossover of styles - are the subtle lyrics: they dont really make sense but in a certain way they amazingly do. Every song covers a small story. The icing on the cake are Evas vocal talents. The album sales went up and Evas following grew after several of her songs were played on national radio. There was no hype, no promotion, just a few songs played on the radio. Nevertheless she managed to obtain het place in Belgian music history. Ive played this cd so often that Im surprised that it hasnt melted in my player. Instant classic.

Prince / Maxwell - Sexy / If I - 02-May-08 06:44 AM
"If I" is a deep & sweet bootleg remix of Maxwells soulhit "NoOne". I heard this track for the first time back in 2001 when it was played by Raoul Belmans on the Belgian national radioshow Switch. I never got to ID the remix but I bumped into it by accident. Grab your woman by the hand and prepare to sensually rub your bodies on the dancefloor. This track spells i-n-t-i-m-a-c-y. The haunting strings are o so nice, they get to me everytime. Very recommended underground deephouse cut.

Unknown Artist - Souls Get Down - 08-Jun-07 01:45 AM
Few people know that Luke Solomon (Freaks, Music for Freaks) is the producer behind this bootleg. The recipe for this Derrick Carter favourite back in 99 is simple: take Michael Jacksons "Thriller", strip it down, throw away the vocals, keep the haunting elements and cook it up in an atmospheric deep house pan while adding that typical Freaks flavour. Tasty little dish.
