Jeroen Verheij - 04-Oct-09 12:13 PM
Im extremely surprised that no one has passed comment on this guy! Ive bought records produced by him under some of the many pseudonyms he uses and it is only of late in the current climate techno has found itself in I find myself looking for artists such as Jeroen Verheij to explore almost in reverse if you like.
The first record I bought at the time of release and checked the credits to see who was behind such a fantastic production was Secret Cinema 2 - "Sundance / Straight Forward" and the last was "Chica-go" which he produced under his own name. It was then that I remembered "hey I know that name!" and decided to dig deeper.
While "Chica-go" could probably fall into the house category its this guys techno that (for me) makes my hair stand on end. Just lately I have picked up the double pack "White Men Cant Funk" - Secret Cinema and am writing this while listening to Point Blank - "White Noise"
Whilst most of todays minimal mob focus on how little they can put into a track Im enjoying discovering productions from guys like this who fills up all the gaps.
Words that come to mind while listening to this particular track are, "deep, meaningful, purposeful, unmistakable and unforgettable". Words that very little of what I hear today conjure up. In fact very much the opposite sadly!
With "Timeless Altitude" being the track most people will know Secret Cinema for Im always intrigued and excited when I see the name Jeroen Verheij somewhere on a record.
Tin Man (3) - Love Sex Acid - 08-Sep-08 01:00 PM
Excellent three track 12" of sublime acid from Tin Man. "Falling Acid" is, for me, a magical piece of music. A tune I often listen to first thing in morning or last thing at night. Really mellow chords with 303 licks all sitting at 120BPM.
It doesnt alter that much as it plays through either. Nice and steady with subtle changes which keep you tuned in.
The two tracks on the flip side arent too bad either. "Lets Do Acid" sounds like a really old production. Lots of rim shots, scattered claps, constantly tweaking 303 and some whispered/reversed vocal samples.
"Love And Sex Acid" is fairly bog standard and is probably situated correctly as B2 to the other two tracks.
When I first heard this I simply assumed its realease date would have been 10-15 years earlier. Really nice to see artists still making this kind of music in this way.
Jeroen Liebregts - Killer Door EP - 06-Sep-08 11:19 AM
Without a doubt one of my favourite purchases this side of 2000. Four well crafted techno tracks each with their own individual features which make them so appealing.
All four tracks are fairly dark affairs and extremely well produced (as is all Liebregts work). "Keychain" uses break type elements accompanying a steady kick along with some cut up female vocals to great effect. "Vloer" also goes down the same path but with the kick more prominent and the vocals replaced with some nice effects and haunting sounds. "Donau" is simple track but effective. Nice steady pounding rhthym. Nothing to fancy.
The stand out track on this release for me is the title track "Killer Door". Dark, deep, rolling techno with a bass line to die for! The intricate xylophone type sounds build and progress really well until the point where this track starts to take off. A small build then the break down and back in again with killer stabs. Awesome techno which I will never grow tired of hearing.
All round a great four track EP well worth having!
