Since bonkers twelve, the bonkers compilations have gradually decreased in quality, bonkers sixteen signals a return of the most fantastic hardcore compilation series in circulation. Hixxy and Re-Con's mix showcases the traditional raverbaby style with happy vocal tunage. Though there isnt anything particularly new about this third of the compilation, its still a strong mix which will definately excite. Sharkey's mix is stellar as usual, and the back 2 back collaboration mixing with CLSM sees his traditional freeform take on a more breakbeat/vocal element. From beginning to end their third of the album thrills with the best experimental and forward thinking hardcore tunes. The third disk signals the return of Scott Brown to the top of the game. Mixed back 2 back with Gammer, this disk is easily the strongest mix of the compilation in my opinion, from start to finish the mix is a blast to listen to. There isnt a dull moment. Scott's particular take on the upfront sound mixes impeccably well with Gammer's aggressive hard trance infused style to create a wild sonic ride. Bonkers sixteen is the best bonkers album in a long time, its an essential purchase for any hardcore lover who wants to rock out to the best.
This remix of pac-man is a straight up dancefloor bomb. The first time I heard it I swear I could have wet my pants, a minute or two into the song the drums drop entirely and you're left with a big rumbling bassline and some filthy, FILTHY acid riffs and the moment the drums kick back in the tune is in full swing. Calling this track a behemoth is the only way it can be discribed. It's flat out madness. Vessel, the b-side doesn't diserve to be the flip to such an awesome tune.
Plus System - Blue Anthem / Is This The Future Dec 07, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
This is a fantastic record all around, "blue anthem" is an powerful and emotional song with a killer synth which always seems to get the crowd going, "is this the future" doesnt disappoint either. A true Scott Brown classic!
Eclipse (9) - Be Happy Aug 09, 2005 (edited over 4 years ago)
This song definately has my vote for tune of the year. I find all too often that hardcore is loosing its cheesy, almost insincere emotional edge in favor of an experimental (in the case of Freeform releases) or predictable (In the case of Evolution Records) quality. I have no problem with this, I love freeform and Scott Brown is still a hero of mine. But I often long for the old style vibe that I used to get from tracks like "Eye Opener" and "Love Of My Life" and this is the track that brings back that feeling i got. I do not believe that the fact that it is cheesy as hell shows signs of regression. On the other hand i think it shows that A) At least one of the big hardcore labels is remembering the past. B) Happy hardcore is remaining happy. C)Next Generation is still making hits.

Be Happy is an uplifting and fast paced masterpiece which incorperates an very positive message and elements of the old skool we all loved. It's a quality track and the remix is a stomper too.
Mediocrity at best, though Sharkey's and Dougal's mix are quite billiant, Scott Brown's style is starting to get a little boring. Cookie cutter beats and bad track selection plague his mix. Hixxy's mix is an old skool set, which i am not even going to talk about, because frankly it bores me. Sharkey's mix on the other hand is amazing, up until now Sharkey's style has been simply growing, now i believe it has peaked. Tracks like "London-Helsinki Underground", "Hardcore Revolution" and "Chemicals In Motion" make buying this entire mix worth while. Dougal's mix is just as good, and is by far the "happiest" of all the mixes. Some of the standout tracks include "Be Happy" and "Get Hype". I would recommend this CD to those who are new to the genre. Veterans will simply get tired.
