Various - Yokomono 03: 55 Lock Grooves - 29-Jun-06 08:44 AM
One side of this white vinyl sampler is a brief yet welcome selection of soundscapes and electronica from Helsinki Shipyard and Mika Vainio & Petri Kuljontausta. The flipside has a wonderful selection (55 in total) of lockgrooves from Staalplaat Soundsystem. Two copies of this and you could go on forever, like some kind of v**gra for electrronica djs....
I like the Mainpal one better...
Various - Yokomono 02: 55 Lock Grooves - 29-Jun-06 08:44 AM
Conceptual art meets locked grooves. This record comes with a postcard telling you all you need to know about the art installation from which this stems (which means I dont have to hark on about it). In brief, then - side one is 55 loops of digital silence, amounting to pretty much the most minimal record imaginable. Think 55 run-out grooves with the pops and clicks becoming the "music" (beat that, Raster Noton!). On side two, eleven artists were invited to make 5 loops each, including Christian Fennesz, Tim Hecker, Radian, Phill Niblock, Charlemagne Palestine and Carl Michael von Hausswolff. Quite an achievement, you have to admit.
Axel Bartsch - Hola Guapa - 29-Jun-06 08:44 AM
Dark and moody minimalism from Axel Bartsch. Sportclub are definitely ploughing a more reduced furrow than many other labels and that really comes through with this release. Long and hypnotic tracks thatll lock people in. Check it OUT!!!!!
Kid606 - Done With The Scene - 28-Jun-06 11:58 AM
Not what you might expect! A surprisingly melodic and warm blend of accessible electronica. There are noisier moments, but its not yer usual white noise and drill n bass beats (i think this was the material licensed to V2 and/or City Slang in Europe). This six-track 12" also includes remixes from Mogwai and Dwayne Sodahberk. If only he made more like this....
2 Live Crew, The - As Nasty As They Wanna Be - 27-Jun-06 09:17 PM
Possibly one of the most silly albums of all time. Considerably sillier than Banned In The U.S.A., it features such genre classics as Me So Horny, The Fuck Shop, Dirty Nursery Rhymes and If You Believe In Having Sex. Mental, rude, definitely not politically correct, but, at times, genuinely hilarious. Actually its worth it for the amazing skills of Mr Mixx on Mega Mixx III.
