Theo Parrish - Instant Insanity - 03-Dec-03 05:01 AM
Limited Edition Sound Signature release. This is a really deep and serious track. The aftermath of the September 11th attacks. This is a musical landscape - a journey into panic and fear. Sampled voices show the varied reactions of people - in so many of the voices we hear fear , anger and ignorance : President Bush "The US will hunt down and punish those responsible" - is this the kind leader we want influencing the world? By contrast Theo includes a sampled voice of a man saying that none of the major world religions would call for an act of retaliation , that we are one in seeking peace and love. A major Theo moment for me but one that will sadly be heard by few. Marvin Gaye beautifully sampled "Panic is spreading" , "God knows where were heading" . Just as then we ask "Whats going on".
Drexciya - Harnessed The Storm - 19-Nov-03 04:26 PM
Lets focus on the music again. For me this is another great Drexciya release - and let me add that it took me a long time to get into Drexciya. So to those not quite getting Drexciya I recommend patient persistance. The album - very different from the equally brilliant Neptunes Layer on Tresor. This album is more subtle and less melodic. Rhythms and atmospheres that really create a world of their own. All inspired! Every track has a deep feeling to convey. Let me just mention Undersea Disturbances - the mysterious and beautiful power of the sea!!! An album that can transport you to the deepest depths of the ocean is to be experienced. Buy this album with confidence. Quality music so often grows with each listening - this has been my Drexciya experience.
Drexciya - Neptune's Lair - 13-Nov-03 01:16 PM
The above review says it all. For me this LP is the most confident Drexciya release I have heard - the melodies just seem to pour out of them. "Andreaen Sand Dunes" - a smooth moment of simplistic beauty. "Organic Hydropoly Spores" - what a feeling! "Surface Terrestrial Colonisation" - an electro-funk workout of breathtaking originality. "O to the power of..." - closes the album by bringing you into new realms. Really a monumental album of electro! What a legacy Drexciya created!
Theo Parrish - You Forgot / Dirt Rhodes - 13-Nov-03 01:06 PM
This is a deep deep track. Moody and hypnotic. Theo creates a beautiful bassy track with a beautiful vocal. Deep , long and rhythmical as only Theo can do. Seriously good music! Make sure you hear it!
UR* - The Final Frontier - 17-Oct-03 03:27 PM
The Final Frontier - this track is like a force of nature. A feeling which words cannot describe. The final frontier that we must cross to reach somewhere better. Another major UR moment. Base Camp Alpha 808 - great minimal space-funk. Entering Quadrant 5 - again that feeling only Mad Mike can create. Yet another UR classic!
