BC* - Inside The Machine / Lost And Found - 24-Apr-08 02:26 PM
This is a great album of turn-of-the-century darkside drum n bass from one of the most well-known collectives in the history of the sound. For those who arent familiar with their work, the re-issued first cd is a great place to start, with such classics as Dead-side, Sentient, Oxygen (The Drilla Killer) and the brilliant tramen and reece workout, Nitrous all giving an accurate account of the lads production mastery.

The second cd is a decent collection of unreleased tunes, including my personal favourites: the uncompromising Excession and the gnarled bass roller,(and another great Bad Company/Moving Fusion collaborative effort) Splatter House.

While I applaud this recent idea of celebrated producers releasing lost and found compilations, I feel I have to bemoan the cd-only format release as Id love to have some of these new tunes on vinyl at last, after nearly ten years wait!

The bottom line though, is that this offering is well worth the money I paid, and has pride of place in mine and any self-respecting dnb heads collection.

Fierce - Dominion - 25-Dec-07 06:12 PM
A fine album of dark, rolling, minimal style which, while not sonically varied enough to hold the attention of some, further cements the labels patent mastery of this edgy, techy sound and sets the standard within this particular genre of drum n bass.
The second cd is mixed with precision, and includes some of the highlights of the Quarantine back catalogue. This disc also features the unreleased track Reaction Time by Fierce and Break. This tune is on this cd twice - mixed, and then presented un-mixed as a hidden track at the end of the cd and, for me, constitutes some of the albums best material.
All in all, a worthy statement of Fierce and Quarantines dominion over what is fast becoming their own signature sound.

Twisted Individual - Bandwagon Blues / Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin Or Your Money Back - 09-Jul-07 09:46 AM
This tune was Twisteds reaction to Distorted Minds T minus 10, which seemed to bite his style a little, it also sparked an amusing, yet quite enjoyable reaction from John B in the shape of Blandwagon Poos. Bandwagon Blues was a great track upon its release with real dancefloor appeal, who cares if the childish politics surronding all three releases was just a clever marketing ploy.

Unknown Error - The Yearning / Midnight Special - 16-Apr-07 02:52 PM
A very impressive slight shift in style is whats on offer here from these newly established heroes of the dark, techy sound from my home town of Maidstone. These two tracks are sublime. The Yearning is gorgeous, with its mournful hook, great vocal sample, and Unknown Errors catchy bassline, it just works, theres really no two ways about it. Midnight Special is just as good, employing a female vocal, shimmering fx and a great rolling bassline with the beats measured well to fit both tracks liquid feel without presenting too much of a departure from their usual output
A great twelve, showcasing the lads talent for production. 5/5

High Contrast - Return Of Forever / So Confused - 04-Apr-07 05:25 AM
I wont add to whats already been said of the A side, but draw attention to So confused. This track is funky, soulful, laidback, and funky some more and just makes me want to get up and dance whenever I hear it. I feel Return of forever overshadows this track rather unfairly, since it stands up well enough on its own with its effortlessly cool and sultry bassline permeating the senses with liquified ease.
A perfect example of this producers genius.
