DeepChord Present Echospace - Spatialdimension - 04-May-08 11:04 PM
Spacialdimension... really nice sounds... however, "nice" might be a tad of an over-inflated reference to this genre of music. Although I couldnt provide the sufficient amount of technical information in regards to the essential production of this style of music (please feel free to enhance my experience), I can rest assure that, ever since the very inception of the first Echospace production, the listener has been taken on non-other than a complete sonic sojourn into simply an advanced mastery of delay, reverb, and tape hiss. The previous review only strenghtens my disclosure: Echospace production is by no means "inferior" to an already established genre by the likes of the much lauded Basic Channel crew, but also neither unpredictable. What drives the minor solemn masses to hord this sound on vinyl religiously, is as much as a phenomenon as any in regards to a type of music bent on exclusivity, laced with a penchant for re-perfecting a regurgitated sound. Simply put, "I love it," but otherwise, I would prefer a track-for-track re-issue of the whole original Deepchord catalogue. "If it aint broke, dont fix it." And the other faction would argue: "Echospace is an improvement on Deepchord." I couldnt agree on more an accurate paradox. Neither productions are genre defining, yet indispensable in its development. Deepchord created a lexicon that drove a sound further, and the Echospace partnership not only continued it, but "modernized" the sound in particular. In conclusion, it seems this label will never falter too far from its sound; but if you find yourself absolutely enamored with it-- look no further.

Vladislav Delay - Anima - 06-Apr-08 12:17 AM
Funny thing about this album, it starts to sound like his demon tracks release, but its still rooted with that CR oomph that so many fans cant get enough of. The later work gets a little artsier, just crazy syncopation, if any. This album does it for me because of its originality. Look far and wide, and maybe, just maybe, some out-there Villalobos track might sound like it. I mean, his work has such a good groove, but thats just Villalobos. Delay just kind of goes berzerk, finally, (after Entain et all), and takes this new developing sound and manages to almost replace that "Villa" groove with expanding the asymetric nature of the beats present here. It creates this real fresh funk, signature, if i may, and this organized disorder "is" the groove. This album is the only one on earth Ive heard that sounds like a trainwreck, but make perfect sense. Some just like the artwork. Pity, its Delay at his finest hour.

Murcof - Utopía Remixes - 28-Sep-07 10:09 PM
Sutekh is an amazing artist, however, his work is mostly characteristic of that glitch aesthetic present during the first half of the first decade of the millenia. The mix on this ep isnt some of his stronger work; please refer to his orthlong or mille plateaux releases for a better take on that sound. The Fax mix on the other hand, not only redeems this 12", but reveals a truly hidden gem. This one kind of takes the deep, dance-floor qualities of many releases associated with this sound, and replaces them with a more subtle, nuanced groove better suited for listening in the privacy of your own home. That is a complement. Think of (and this might help define it for those who know) a track with that deep detroit feel, but without the kitsche intrumentation. BC atmosphere, but a welcome departure from all that echo and reverb. Ambient, yet just the right amount of clicks and beats to entertain you away from that genres banality. More heart than Gas and just as cinematic as the quieter Convextion tracks, yet gladly less centimental. Not too dark, not too deep. Right down the middle. Very nice indeed.

Convextion - Miranda (Remixes) - 12-Apr-07 06:10 AM
Sorry to burst anyone dub-techno bubble, but clearly this is a seriously misunderstood release. To all those claiming disapointment, regard this as a reissue to a monumental track, PLUS a series of accompaniying remixes, none of which are straying from its genre, e.i. a house or drum and bass remixe. That would be criminal if they were anything else than a take on the original. Hype, no. A favor, more than anything. Whats the going Ebay price on Ebay as of late? Exactly. Not to mention everyone else pitching in on the remixes are geniouses in their own right. Techno-haters, hate on. I am VERY happy with ALL aspects and efforts from all artists on this release. With countless forgetable releases in our beloved genre, I scratch my head when it comes to negative responses to talented, wait, legendary artists as such included in this release. Wonders never cease...
