Thee Majesty + White Stains - At Stockholm
Apr 12, 2008
FANTASTIC album (IMHO), which granted me with lots of thoughts, twisted feelings and true inspiration! Beautiful and deep poetry, incl. verses by J. D. Morrisson and A. Crowley, but mostly by G. P-Orridge flows along with very powereful and transforming music - sometimes ambient, sometimes harsh and uncomfortable, but all throught the CD - always intriguing and very catchy. Best to listen to in the dark and your headphones on :) And be ready for a TRIP as it's MORE than just verses and sounds ;) I even feel envious for your first time!
Bad Sector & Astro - Idio Blast
Feb 13, 2008
I would rather rate it as 3 instead of 4, which is my current rating. :) But you should see that constructor, included! :) As to music itself, this is a material that was sent to Magrini by Hiroshi Hasegawa aka Astro for further manipulations. And Massimo did it well! Just can add, that, imho, there are much more interesting releases you can hear from Bad Sector. :) This material strongly reminded me of Queens Of Circulating Library by Coil. It's also minimal and rather prolonged for 1 track recording. Unlike Coil's work, Idio Blast just didn't change my state of mind so dramatically. As to constructor, which is part of this limited edition, it's soo great! Really, I mean it! :) After some time, and it's not so easy to build it, you can get very unusual and pleasant thing for your interior. :) Bad Sector was allways cool at CDs packaging, but this time it's something really amazing! :) Bravo!
Soriah - Chao Organica In A Minor
Feb 13, 2008
Certainly, one of the most extraordinary and inconventional releases I've heard for the last couple of months! I would rather name the genre not as electronic and experimental for this particular release, but as avant-garde. It's live performance recorded at some church in Portland, USA, and it's featuring pipe organ built in 1881! You should listen to this sound and how soriah play it. And how he play with it! The combination of organ sound, which I can describe as minimal, dark and deep, and soriah's vocals creating intriguing and meditative athmosphere with a space left for your mind-flow of associations. It's very rich music, while minimal, and it's influence is something you just can't resist. I am not much of an organ playing techinique expert, but, imho, mr. soriah is quite unusial at this. As to vocals and soriah's tuvan singing, I've heard more sophisticated singers, for example, Sainkho Namtchylak. But soriah is quite listenable though. I am very impressed! It's a must to listen to!
Various - Teknoir

To tell the truth, I was surprised a little bit to see rather low ratings for this release! It's really surprising due to the fact that it is Hymen weirdos compillation, and they are all at their best here! :) Most of the tracks are perfect to my mind and ears. There are no too extreme sound from Hymen as it could be, so I can certainly recommend this release to anybody interesated in getting a scope of what Hymen stands for as label. As a plus - mastering is made on high level, so you can listen to this as solid musical material, not as to devided pieces; at the same time, all individual sound features of pal, architect, orphx and others were not squared too much, so you will be able to catch their individual musical approach. It's worth listening to and it's amazing compillation, indeed!
Various - Jack The Tab / Tekno Acid Beat

For the start - I'd like to say "thank you!" to jazzliscious for his great review :) Being not so sophisticated, I just could add some more "user's" impressions of this extraordinary music :) So I did ;)
Actually, this release is the one, for which I changed my rating points for at least 3 times here on discogs. It happened so that I could not get this CD for a long time. Being somewhat GPO-interested person and his and his gang's acid-house as well, I was expecting too much from this release!.. So it was even more regretable to experience my first time as disappointment. I only noticed some catchy 90-s feeling and a part of my mind was so unobviuosly charmed with what I have heard, that after some time I decided to listen to it anew. Better for the second, but after a while I felt boring :) Now it's my third attempt - and you know, it's so cool now, being in the "right state of mind" :) For much of PTV works this, let's say - cooperation between music and a state of your mind is a must :) Try it like a trip - with much conditioning from your side and, having a prepared surrounding, you will certainly integrate a new world inside and around you! So, use this sound as helpful medium :)
Hecate - Brew Hideous

It's surprising for myself first of all, as I am not a big fan of such a sound, but this album is just fucking great, imho! :) My attitude towards this material was changing while I was listening to it with my headphones on late at night. My feelings were changing from "dull and boring" on first two tracks to "hm... so intersting!" starting from the third track, to "oh my god, it's unbelievable!" from track 4 till the end of the track 10! More than this, it was absolutely out of control that I was so deeply involved in music! All 45 minutes or so flew away just like a single second. And it was an adventure. This music appeared to communicate with my thoughts and feelings just beyound reason, and it was so powerful! :) I can describe it as sexy (well... may be, it's time to visist a brain doctor), dark, ironic, involving, instinctive and intellectual at the same time. All I can add is that I pressed "play" again after it ended. No words, except fantastic!!!
Bohren & Der Club Of Gore - Geisterfaust
Feb 03, 2008
So, just another great "horror-jazz" album from "Bohren & Der Club Of Gore". IMHO, nearly as great as their "Black Earth". May be, a 'lill bit less dark and heavy... Not so furious. But, is this minus? :) The music in some pieces strongly reminds of some tracks from "Black Earth", but it is heard not as self-repeating, but as additions or developing of certain moods and rhythms. Very athmospheric and rich and jazzy. Several tracks could be great soundtrack to a romantic noire suspense movie, as far as I am concerned :) No doubts, reco!
Bohren & Der Club Of Gore - Black Earth

Can you imagine jazz being played like it was doom-metal? :) Then try to listen to this release! Music on this CD is rather dark and slow and even heavy sometimes (album cover fits the music perfectly!), but at the same time it's not boring. More than this, music is so perfectly played and so fascinating, that it's just impossible to turn it off! Actually, it's reather long, but you feel it like 10 seconds! Great release! Highly recommended for all lovers of inconventional music.
PTV³* - Direction Ov Travel
Feb 02, 2008
Rather interesting release, I should say. It's not what you intended to hear from GPO, for sure! :) I can describe it as highly vibrating 5 musical meditations. Tibetian bowls, drums and bells were used together with violin. And all these together are really hard to review and estimate unless you are not in the right state of mind ;) What to do is shown on the inner art-work. So, possibly, I'll update my review later ;) Meanwhile, I can certainly recommend not to pass this CD, if you were lucky to buy it, steal it, beg it or borrow :) | ||||
