Fark - Centercourt - 05-Oct-08 04:11 PM
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Clicky-Poppy Bleep Bleep Minimal Tech is not really my preferred style of dance music. In fact, my 18 month old son and I were listening to this one and he started making "popping" noises with his mouth; it was quite funny really. Non-the-less this EP has a certain appeal to me, besides the naming scheme of the tracks (who doesn't like hot female tennis players?). In fact, as far as tech house goes, this one stands out a little bit from the rest. The percussion samples are well placed behind the upbeat drum tracks, and the synth work is minimal, but still complex enough to hold ones interest. Another positive aspect of this release is the four tracks tie into an overall theme, but they don't suffer from the "everything that I write sounds the same" syndrome. At least not as much as most other music in this genre. "Martina" in particular I found to be rather interesting; the doorbell sample halfway through actually made me do a quick rewind before I got up and answered to door to nobody.

As of this writing, this release is still available at the internet archive. It's just a shame that this label is no longer around. This is a solid effort and worth checking out if you have some free time and are looking for something new to listen to.

Daniel Gardner - Under The Shower Tower - 28-Sep-08 08:09 PM
Jesus Christ! After nearly a year hiatus, Thinner is back with what appears to be the strongest release in their catalogue. This track is so friggin' infectious it's not even funny. Thinner, while not my favorite label, has been known to release some damn good tracks, and this one is no exception. Sweet melody, odd but endearing vocals, techy minimal house beats, all kinds of fun samples. This isn't usually the type of music that I go for, but it is just too good to pass on. The Byallo mix isn't bad either. Definitely more "housey" than the original with an odd filter on the odd vocals, but still good in it's own right. The fact these guys are just giving this away simply blows my mind. I feel sorry for people that still pay for music.

DDR - Madness / Their Eyes - 07-Jul-08 07:30 PM
Yes yes, here it is. That infectious quote from Fear And Loathing mixed into a bangin' hard trance gem that has stood the test of time (so far, at least for me anyway). The first time I heard this one I was immediately impressed, if I remember correctly, and I am still just as pleased when I hear it today. As a recent addition to my collection, I am only saddened by the fact that it took me song long to find it. Anyone who can see the smile on my face when this one is spinning can't argue about how much I like this song, and I'm sure you'll agree when you hear it also. Five stars for sure. Their Eyes is an alright track, but it pales in comparison.

Harald Walker - Electromeister 3.0 - 10-Feb-08 02:05 PM
Some of you might be finding yourself in a similar situation that I was in many moons ago, that is to say that you probably haven't heard of any of these artists featured in this mix before. If you have, then good for you! If not, then keep reading.

Sonic Walker is a netlabel based out of the Netherlands that releases mixes featuring nothing but strong netlabel talent. Coincidentally, the founder of the label, Harald Walker, happens to be the man behind this mix, which is the third installment of the Electromeister series. While the first two are great mixes, this edition really takes the cake. The entire mix is very tight throughout, with obvious thought put into the track selection. In fact, there is nary a dull moment from start to finish. Harald has also proven himself as a competent DJ here, with a blatant dedication to the music that is hard to find these days.

I could probably go on further, but I suppose (as always) that I should let the music do the talking. The fact that this, and all releases at Sonic Walker are available for instant download (free of charge) leaves you with very few excuses not to check it out. There are scores of other mixes to be had as well, so if this mix doesn't 'float your boat', you can be sure that there is something there that will. Do yourself a favor, spend a few minutes to download the mix and enjoy the free music.

Various - Trouble Soup!! Presents Y4K (Part One) - 01-Dec-07 03:53 PM
These couple of tracks here are good fun for the whole family. Not only would either of them mix well into a prog house set, but they fit in very well with the 'distinctive breaks' theme of sounds, even though they don't truly belong in the breakbeat genre. Despite the 4/4 beat of both of the offerings here, I do feel that mixing into or out of traditional breaks is a piece of cake, and I'm sure you will agree once listening to either track.
