Profile: Hello there;
In the early 80's I was a DJ in Rotterdam. Later on I also sometimes worked in a drive-in-disco.
My collection (almost 3000 records: only LP's and 12 inches: not 7 inches) goes back from the mid-seventies untill the mid-nineties. I also own some "unofficial" (re) mixes: about 300.

I am a BIG Cowley-fan. He died much to soon (12-11-1982RIP). I think I have most of his records (on the Fusion label as well on the Megatone and other labels) and some stuff he produced. Like the Cowley remix of Michelle's "Disco Dance" in 1977, his famous remix of Donna Summers I feel love, his remakes of Tantra's "the Hills of Katmandu", Two Tons of Fun's "I got the feeling", Hot Posse's "An American Dream" and The Passenger's "Hot Leather". I also own some other very rare Hot Tracks remixes of Patrick Cowley like Dan Hartman's "Relight my fire", LTD's "Back in Love again", Lipp's Inq's "Funky Town" and Tantra's "Hills of Katmandu".
If you are a Cowley fan also you let me know.
Perhaps we can chat a little. I also have some rare records of him twice (spare) so if you own something special of Cowley let me know... perhaps we can swop something.

Ah yeah: if you want to know more about the insides of the San Francisco Bay Area (gay) music scene at end 70s and begin 80s it is VERY necessary to read the (pocket) book: "TRIBAL RITES" written by David Diebold. David was a musician who worked for the Megatone-label and due to this knew many artists... In his book the producers/artists (Sylvester, Cowley, Marty Blecman, Paul Parker) and many other musicians/backup singers tell (live) stories about how they met, which instruments were used(for example which synths Cowley played) and so on. It's VERY, VERY hard to get but definitively worth the trouble getting it...

And did you know....
The story about the highly sought JDC-label (Hills of Katmandu: 13.40 m). I think Unidisc released this song earlier on spec 1229 than JDC on 0100 because this Unidisc record (from 1982) is six years older than the JDC-record (from 1988). Unidisc also released a lot of special Cowley remixes by the way…

And there were also the acetates: aluminium records with laque.
In those days DJ’s and artists let these acetates press for promotion. Perhaps you know the story: Patrick made a remix of Donna Summers “I Feel Love” and printed this in 1977 on aprox. 10 acetates (on the Sunshine Sound label). This was only the Mono version. In Canada some stereo versions were pressed. The two versions were slightly different. Cowley gave his acetates to some Disco’s and a radio station. He also left a copy with Disconet and Casablanca Records but Casablanca did not do anything with it at that time. But Disconet (who knew Cowley because they previously released on V1 P7: the Cowley Megamix of Michele’s “Disco Dance” for which Cowley was not credited of the label but only on the DJ News) released on V2 P9 a very short piece of the Cowley remix I feel love (only 3.04 minutes). By the way: this is really the rarest record (and hardest to find) for my collection.
After Disconet released the very first 3 minutes remix of Cowley of I feel Love on V2 P9 Disconet released about six months later on V3 P7 the whole 15.43 version of the Cowley megamix of I feel Love. Because this record became highy sought it was bootlegged by for example Manhattan Records... The megamix became such a hit that Casablanca (in England) released later on (in 1982) the whole 15 minutes remix. After all; Casablanca had the rights of the megamix sinds 1977. After the Casablanca release the rest is history....(with thanks to DJ Patrick).

Patrick Cowley - Menergy - 02-Jun-09 03:42 PM
The A-side on this record has a slightly different remix of Menergy than came out on the (original) San Francisco Fusion Label and on the (rare) Megatone LP M-1001 (only 10.000 pieces where printed of the M-1001).
This Black Scorpio 12 inch version from France has a shorter intro which sounds very powerfull. It is a nice record for those who collect records of the great late mr. Patrick Cowley and is absolutely a must have in your collection.

Patrick Cowley - Megatron Man - 19-May-09 11:46 AM
Limited Edition; limited to around 10.000 pressings !

This was limited to 10.000 pressings because the Fusion label threatened to sew Megatone because they owned the rights of Menergy and I wanna take you home.
So: Megatone came out with another album M1002 with Sea Hunt and Teen Planet but WITHOUT Menergy, I wanna take you home.

The pressing is exactly the same as the M-1001 but with different runout grooves etchings.

This pressing is kind a rare and there is highly underestimated.

Tantra (2) - Hills Of Kat Mandu - 02-May-09 04:14 PM
This is an rare CD with a remix by Patrick Cowley (the first song). This remixed version is exactly the same as pressed on the vinyl record Unidisc 12inch SPEC1229 and as pressed on the collection set (bootleg): Cowley's Dance Floor Classics of May 2006.
The intro and ending here are very different from the Cowley remix pressed on HOT TRACKS - Hot Classics Issue 4, later repressed on Unidisc SPEC 1228 and JDC records no 100.
This version is also some what shorter than the Hot Tracks/spec 1228/JDC 100 version: 13.27 agains 13.40 minutes.
The second song is the original version of Tantra.

Tantra (2) - The Hills Of Katmandu (The Patrick Cowley Megamix) - 11-Feb-09 02:16 PM
There are two pressings of no UNIDISC SPEC-1229 and this one (SPEC 1229A) is the first pressing.
The SPEC-1229A contains a 13.40 minutes version of Cowleys remix of the Hills of Katmandu. The SPEC-1229 contains a longer version (14.00) of Cowleys remix of the Hills of Katmandu.
I did a little research and I do not understand why the UNIDISC record is not as highy sought as the JDC-record (which people pay a lot more money for than this Unidisc record).
JDC (re) pressed a lot of records and the JDC record of Cowley's Katmandu is simply a repress of this Unidisc version.
Check it out: the Unidisc record (from 1982) is six years older than this JDC-record (pressed in 1988).
I really never saw the UNIDISC pressing before and I collect already from 1980 Cowley records. So I believe the Unidisc record is highly undervalued and kind of rare. Every one is searching for the JDC record but I am convinced this Unidisc version is the original one.
