4 Hero - Creating Patterns - 04-Dec-06 09:10 AM
A compilation of previously released 4Hero singles, where most of them are masterpieces. An amazing collection of their trademark musical eclecticism... all the tunes, by default, have the refreshing new-age soul feel with jazzy breaks and an abundance of orchestrated spices all over.
This release deserves an honorable place in every eclectic music collection.
Sian (3) - Sei - 31-Jul-06 01:19 PM
A very interesting release that could find its slot in almost any tech-house, deep house or acid house DJ set. To some extent, synth section and atmosphere building-up of "Sei" remind somehow to Laurent Garnier's "Flashback", although "Sei" is less intense, slower and has no vocals whatsoever. Regardless, "Sei" (in both original and Steve Bug's remix forms) is a wonderful deep house, while "Tigerchild" is less original, retroish and repetitive tech-house tune.
Jamie Lidell - Multiply - 27-Jul-06 11:50 AM
WOW! What an album, what a singer, what music!
Jamie is a proof where music creation and producing has came to and where it's heading. It's the future of bootstrapped musical creativity. A genius and a technology join in a perfect harmony.
Jamie Lidell gives you one of those experiences where you expect a full-blown band of stage professionals, but instead you get blown away by what one man (band) can do.
Imagine a technology geek (thick glasses are a good company) with a voice of Otis Redding, the soul that goes with it, dressed in a cape (or some other different style of attire) paired with sufficient technology and know-how to mash it up in almost any way imaginable. He's mad behind the sampler, keyboard and his laptop, while his soul is breathing fire through the mic. So good! :-D
Etienne De Crécy - Super Discount - 24-Jul-06 12:38 PM
This is truly a seminal (french) house record. Its spacy and dubby feel sounds fresh 9 years later. Although some tunes are (still) great for mixing at the parties, while some are perfect to be enjoyed in your household, the entire release has a fluid form which can be consumed in one take over and over again.
The video for the tune "Prix Choc" by Etienne De Crécy is my favourite video of all times. And I saw it only once. Imagine this sexy tune played to judo fight filmed from various angles with a hi-speed camera and played in slow motion. A total trip!
This compilation has converted an ex-colleague of mine into the world of house and electronic music. Go figure! :-D
Hefner - An Evening With Hefner - 06-Jun-06 01:39 AM
Great album from Hefner portraying a deep and wonderful cinematic sound (in part 3 even surpassing the sound coming from Cinematic Orchestra!). 8 years later, Hefner's sound from this release still doesn't show its age. Discovered to a wider audience via Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show on BBC Radio 1.
