For me this release is all about the Acid Dub mix...
However it is a glorious energetic remix with funky breaks, gated vocals, stabby synths & a toe-curling 303 analogue line which rolls up & down your spine. The other mixes are more down-tempo plodding four to the floor piano house styleee... which is fine if that's what you are into. This 12" is all about Gorecki - it's gut-wrenching raw & heart-felt emotion pressed on vinyl... such a POWERFUL tune.
It opens with a simple piano refrain & Louise Rhodes plaintive vocals... this slowly builds & builds until suddenly you are swept away with the fierce beats & full on orchestral sweeping strings, twisting & turning you until finally you are left again with Louise's heart-felt outro vocals. You cannot listen to this song & remain unaffected by it. My review doesn't do it justice by a long chalk but the lyrics below might... "Gorecki" If I should die this very moment I wouldn't fear For I've never known completeness Like being here Wrapped in the warmth of you Loving every breath of you Still my heart this moment or it might burst Could we stay right here 'Til the end of time, 'Til the earth stops turning Wanna love you 'til the seas run dry I've found the one i've waited for All this time i've loved you And never known your face All this time i've missed you And searched this human race Here is true peace Here my heart knows calm Safe in your soul Bathed in your sighs Wanna stay right here 'Til the end of time, 'til the earth stops turning Gonna love you 'til the seas run dry I've found the one i've waited for The one i've waited for All I've known All I've done All I've felt was leading to this All I've known all I've done All I've felt was leading to this Wanna stay right here 'Til the end of time, 'Til the earth stops turning Gonna love you 'til the seas run dry I've found the one i've waited for The one i've waited for The one i've waited for...
Eskimos & Egypt - Don't U Do It! (Remix)

The A2 mix ('Is Billy coming out to play ?') is quite simply one of the most haunting, uplifting & powerful pieces of music put to wax...
The opening synth melody sounds like it is coming directly from Heaven... an arm-raiser of the highest order \o/. This gives was to beats & melodies interspersed with the vocals 'Don't U do it !' & 'That's the spirit !' which builds & builds again to an achingly beautiful drop. There simply aren't superlatives adequate to describe how good this record is...

Cut and paste mashup in a Todd Terry stylee... and none the worse for that, the Marshall Jefferson - House Music Anthem stabs & steals are still as effective now as they were then. Think of Black Riot 'A day in the Life' or Royal House 'Can U Party' & you've got the flavour of this tune.
However a word of warning, that my copy is rather tinny - I am unsure if it's just my battered copy or generic crap production values on this release. Jump-jump-jump ! Every body ! The no drum mix is the one to go for in my opinion - it's a wonderful semi acapella mix starting with ethno chants & a simple tomtom drum building with an uplifting & warm simple synth dropping to Donna's perfectly pitched & inflectioned vocals & then climaxing with a glorious swelling gospel chorus - spine-tingly good stuff \0/
This record is very dear to me as it was given to me by a very special person in my life. Absolutely essential Italian tune - from the opening uplifting synth chords you know this is going to be powerful stuff indeed ;o) \0/
However what most people don't realise is that this is a cover version of Pete Shelley's "I Don't Know What It Is" (http://www.discogs.com/release/22638) - for those that love the Sined version (which is very rare & commands a price up to 50 GBP) the Pete Shelley original is worth checking out for a snip of Sined's price ;o) Superb uplifting tune, a smiley smiley piano line throughout, BOOMING b-line that penetrates & envelopes you, ethno chanting & a positive rap midsection. One of the great things about this tune is it's versatility - you can play it @ 33 (+4) for a mellow balaeric feel or @ 45 (-4) for a 1991 oldskool rave feel. You can only do this with this release however as the DeCon release has the 'mellow' mix @ 45 ;o)
Essential tune in my opinion, as the tune says "Tell this to everybody, wherever they are !" Excellent tune in a typical Italian style - ie. lifting music wholesale from other artists ! In this example the tune draws heavily on Herb Alpert - Rotation (http://www.discogs.com/release/174017) using the trumpet lines in it's entirety from Herb Alperts release & is credited as such on the label.
Herb Alpert's original tune is well worth checking out if you enjoyed Mr Luthero (it's also available on cool clear vinyl too... which is nice :o) ! ) A wicked tune with top beats, heavy bass, metallic synth & sirens - & most importantly very cheeky steals from the piano riff from Landlord - I like it (blow out dub) to be found here http://www.discogs.com/release/66130 & also the b line from the b-capella of True Faith to be found here http://www.discogs.com/release/73513. | ||||
She left Chic in 1978 to begin a solo career, billed as "Norma Jean" & this album was produced &, in the main, written by Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers as a goodbye & thankyou.
This album has the classic Edwards / Rodgers stamp all over it; rock solid groovy b lines & funky as hell whacka whacka guitar riffage... layered on top of this foundation are some classy soaring string & brass orchestration & of course Norma's sweet soulful voice.
To me the stand-out track on this album is 'I like love' which is 5.42 of pure goose-pimple inducing disco funk soul gloriousness...
Opening with a simple Rodgers guitar riff, layering on an Edwards bassline & suddenly giving way to a full on orchestration & vocals which builds & builds until it suddenly drops away at 3.03 where we are treated to a jaw-droppingly glorious 2 minutes worth of midsection breakdown with Rodgers riffing his heart out building with incremental layers of Edwards bassline, strings & Norma Jean vocals until kicking back in at 4.04 with a full on crescendo & outro...
This is utterly utterly smile-inducing & it's such a crying shame this tune wasn't pressed to 12" as it is crying out for a full phatt pressing.
