Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear - 20-Nov-06 04:15 AM
Great record.

Very bitter in places, but timeless soul all the way through - a very important part of the Marvin Gaye story.

Could be called a concept album, as the tracks are tied by the subject matter. A real journey through the downs of a relationship.

This starts in a very melancholic way. And gradually gets more and more angry. Until it all starts to calm down again with "Everybody Needs Love". From there it almost stops, and then picks up with a brilliant saxophone instrumental of "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You". This is sublime.

Marvin Gaye's voice is effortless.

New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies - 07-Dec-05 02:25 AM
This is just wonderful. This is where New Order finally left behind the post-Joy Division sound of "Movement" and discovered something all their own.

Power, Corruption & Lies is revolutionary. Little like this existed at the time, and even now this LP has something different about it.

"Your Silent Face" is great, and "Ecstasy" is brilliant. The Peter Saville cover gives nothing away, which just adds to the album.

New Order - The Peel Sessions - 06-Dec-05 05:30 PM
"Turn the heater on" is rhythmic, dark, and exactly what New Order are about. If you like "Mesh", "Cries and Whispers" and the like, you'll love this.

Ron Trent - The Afterlife - 17-May-04 11:41 AM
THE Chicago Warehouse track; Altered States is dark, wonderful, and almost impossible to obtain in it's initial guise. Luckily Djax re-released this original mix with some POOR remixes. As has been said about these mixes - if it it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Octave One Featuring Lisa Newberry - I Believe - 14-May-04 12:28 PM
Detroit techno by the master. Very difficult to obtain due to Transmat's removal of this record from their back-catalogue. Magic Juan Mix is moody, atmospheric, and terrible to dance to, but great nonetheless...
