never dismiss any musical styles cus I might not be a fan of every act, but most acts come up with at least one decent tune no matter what genre

Mongrel (3) - Better Than Heavy - 21-Aug-09 02:13 PM
Indie Supergroup (members of Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and The Makers and Babyshambles) meets Hip Hop (Lowkey) with a heavy dose of Politics, Dub and Funk. This album was given away free in The Independent, British newspaper, in March 2009. Numbers of how many copies of this album exist must be sceptical, "free" copies being sold over auction sites cant help.
"Barcode" criticises the British Government and their plans to introduce Identity Cards, "Youre a number, Youre a barcode, Got your details all on file." "Lies," sounds something like The Specials might have done in 79-80, as Jon McClure and Lowkey swap chorus and verse. "The Menace" is one of the stand out tracks, as it hypothesises how religion and terrorism have become intrinsically linked. "Julian" is the first track that gets the Dub experience, a slower track but moody with a dark undercurrent. "Alphabet Assassins" has to be up there to include the most featured artists on one track, with none fewer than sixteen extra artists, as each rap attempts to consist of words only beginning with initial letters Z back to A.
Better Than Dub sees most tracks on Better Than Heavy getting a rework courtesy of Adrian Sherwood and the On-U Sound treatment.

Sabres Of Paradise, The - Wilmot I - 10-Apr-08 03:06 PM
If you like Dub, then you will fall in love with Wilmot the moment you hear that bass line kick in, a head nodder for sure. Call it Dub Reggae, or Dub Reggae with a Techno influence, whatever, the bass just plods along sweetly. Andrew Wetherall is a lover of all things Dub, if you were ever lucky enough to hear his Kiss FM residency, then you would know. Techno and Dub Reggae go together so perfectly, show me a Techno head that doesnt like Dub Reggae, they go hand in hand. Nearest comparison would be Bandulu.

Wink* - 20 To 20 - 05-Apr-08 11:11 AM
This is Josh Wink at his best with funky, acid squelching, beats. This man from Philly brought you one of the best acid house/deep house/dirty house lables ever, Ovum Recordings. There is an "Easter Egg" contained on this CD, try ripping it with Windows Media. There is a mix by DR. LEKTROLUV which madly syncs up with the album, tunes from album contained in mix. The mix by DR. LEKTROLUV is available for purchase which is extended.
