Lusine Icl* - Sustain - 15-Aug-09 03:07 AM
Simply put: this 10" contains one of what I consider to be the upwards of the greastest Lusine Icl tracks known to mankind..."Sustain". With its full intro complete with that static record noise Lusine used so well back then, to the prolific before its time dubstep (is this where that came from??), to the out of no-where break in between, moving into the perfected melodic tendency of the Icl at the time, to the two minute long outro pushing emotion through the tech elements of the mind of a computer. This track stuns me, and those who I play it for and in front of, with beauty, intelligence, and flat out artistry every single time it touches my eardrums.

Funkstörung provides a heady hip-hop outlook on this of course, pulling the best elements from the song and making it completely Funkstörung all over again.

Also included: "In Flight". Another one of Jeff McIlwains best ambient-IDM style endeavors. Find this release at all costs.

Various - Merck Fragments - 04-Jan-09 05:08 PM
Uber-sweet idea here from Merck. As they were about to go out of business, the Fragments CD-ROM was issued. Complete with music, almost the entire Merck cover catalog, and a few other folders with a bunch of Merck related art!

A great collection of various tracks from the Merck back catalog exists within the folders of the CD, including an extremely deep rooted banging IDMish Techno track from Talve. "Theres Always A Girl" works a solid beat with many UFO landing signals flying all over the place, super heady stuff! One complaint on these: Theyre not all above even 256 kbps, which, if youre a huge geek about only playing uncompressed music (or at least 320), its kind of a bummer.

Then we come to a folder entitled "proem live". Heres the real jackpot: NINE half hour plus live sets from one of the Merck Gods, Proem. After hearing Proems "liveMD" and seeing him live at the Decibel Festival, I was SOLD on having more live sets from this man. If youre a Proem fan whatsoever - THESE ARE A MUST!

With so much music compiled onto this CD, it is WELL worth the $12 or so youll pay for this online somewhere!!

Lackluster - Foc349 - 30-Dec-08 03:18 AM
Stretching back to a younger Lackluster do we find one of my all time favorite tracks from his catalog..."Cull Streak".

"Cull Streak" is placed upon a few deFocus releases, but is found on vinyl on deFocus foc349, which is all the reason to get this particular plate.

What starts as a simple lullaby tick-tock, turns into a grooved bouncy downtempo hip-hop influenced track layered with melancholy pad lines that continually sweep the emotions of love, happiness, sadness, and deep joy within the soul. Simple, yet extremely elegant and moving.

Highly recommended on an outdoor sound system around the time the sun comes up for whoever is left around the fire...

Various - Kaihoisa Pt.3 - 02-Dec-08 02:47 AM
Worth every cent for Upcgriqr alone!

The only press and or any place period you can find this track in a playable condition anywhere, Upcgriqr is by far one of the most outstanding outputs from the brain of Jeff McIlwain.

Played pitched down to 8 on 33, this track expands into a sensual emotion grab bag complete with joy, glee, and melancholy! Perfect for the dance floor, or to lay back and listen to with a bowl and a lover, I highly recommend doing whatever you can to find this piece of clear treasure!

Proem - liveMD[cd?] - 02-Jun-08 04:51 AM
Proem delivers here what in my mind is one of the reasons why I find Richard Bailey to be one of the top brains behind the new agers in the laptop realm of the electronic community.

Rhythmically advanced while scratching at the tip of your brain, this mix will also melt your heart in moments where its least expected. Wonderfully executed, youll hear multiple favorites from Proem layered on top of one another in that incredibly calm and relaxed style that RB graces us with. Little_A is a definitely highlight moment for an example of this.

Proem proves here that a live laptop only show from newer producers, when done this well, is entirely okay.
