CocoRosie - La Maison De Mon Rêve - 24-Feb-06 08:06 PM
What a dreamy, gauzy, spooky record. One of my faves of the last year. It sounds very cheaply made, but the girls' singing is so odd and affecting. When I listen to this, I get the feeling that I'm at a séance, and cocorosie are coming at me from the world of the spirits through the medium of the CD player.

Love - Forever Changes - 15-Feb-06 09:26 AM
Absolute timeless classic masterpiece of pure pop goodness. The music is much less "psychedelic" than you'd expect. Likely because the focus is on honest-to-goodness songs instead of jams or freakouts, and songwriting is so strong. Cuts like opener Alone Again Or and The Daily Planet are earworms, plain and simple. Most of the bonus tracks on this release are inessential, but the 1968 single is a hidden gem buried near the end. The remastering is crisp and clear. Overall, a total winner.

Orb* - Pomme Fritz - 28-Jan-06 11:51 AM
I love how the cover art parodies Pink Floyd's "Relics" album.

But other than that, there's not much to love about the Orb's "little album" - many of the sounds come off as half-baked ideas; the record feels like a collection of leftovers & failed recipies.

Accelera Deck - Narcotic Beats - 26-Jan-06 04:14 AM
Narcotic Beats could be described treated-guitar ambiance à la Seefeel layered over stuttering µ-Ziq-style breakbeats. Unlike Paradinas' work however, the percussion here is generally back in the mix, often covered in a layer of static hiss. Nothing remarkably ground-breaking here, but well-executed nonetheless. Another touchstone for this record might be Chessie's 'Signal Series' record.

Chessie - Signal Series - 26-Jan-06 04:14 AM
Reformed shoegazey indie-rocker Stephen Gardner (ex-Lorelei) mucks about with D breakbeats on his first release as Chessie. There's still lots of treated-guitar squalling on this record, but it's all underpinned by rollicking beats. The sampled train sounds on this record are excellent, forming the basis for a number of breaks used throughout.
