Cristian Vogel - Defunkt Remixes - 02-Oct-02 10:47 AM
from promo sheet:

Defunkt was first released three years ago as Solid 002, a limited edition vinyl stormer. The name went on to encapsulate a feeling as demonstrated by first our club in Brighton and later at the Tresor Club in Berlin.
This year sees the first of it's re workings. Firstly by the boys as Audio whose style has changed considerably since Defunkt's first outing and whose recent releases have rocked dancefloors across Europe. The second mix comes from Brighton's own Justin Berkovi, who has released befor for Solid and more recently for Mosquito, Force Inc. and Knee Deep.
ENJOY.

Cristian Vogel - We Equate Machines With Funkiness EP - 29-Sep-02 03:58 AM
From promo sheet:

MOSQUITO is...

No handbag. No sci-fi. No pretensions. No cliches. No ethno trance. No octave bass. No unnecessary key changes. No factory presets. No three-O-three for the sake of it.

Plenty of rhythm. Plenty of analogues. Plenty of entertaining noises. Plenty of loops. Plenty of grooves. Plenty of live jammin. Planty of playful seriousness.

Putting the bug back into techno.

Super_Collider - Messagesacomin EP - 24-Sep-02 03:59 PM
from promo sheet:

Cristian Vogel and jamie Lidell return with their highly anticipated second colaboration as Super_Collider. The first single to be unleashed is the mutant purple funk of 'Messagesacomin', where the cleaving of Lidell's subtle, fluid falsetto vocal to the uniquely Super_Collider sound of deep, unsettled rhythms causes the sensation of pleasurable friction; unfettered charisma underpinned by studio precision. Very groovy.

The 12" single features two radically different remixes. MDK (who released two albums on Spymania) up the track into a spiraling, heatseaking breakbeat clatter. Brighton newcomers Chungking focus on Lidell's vocals and turn in a vibes-drenched, rain-falling-on-a-window-pane version full of melancholy uncertainty. Chungking release their first record Bubble Love on Tummy Touch in March 2002.

Artist History:
Super_Collider's previous album, Head On, came about when the duo decided to share a studio together in Brighton, and was released to widespread praise on Loaded in 1999. Much has changed since then. Lidell is now Berlin-based and Vogel a Barcelona resident, the recording of Raw Digits taking place in three countries over two years. The No Future-run label Rise Robots Rise has been set up to release the album.

Justin Berkovi - How Ya Like Me Now... - 23-Sep-02 12:03 AM
from promo sheet:

Justin Berkovi comes onto the Pro-Jex roster with an EP hot on the heels of DJ Rush. He is part of the hot Brighton 'Scene' alongside techno artists such as Si Begg(aka Buckfunk 3000) and Cristian Vogel, and records for Germany's Force Inc. and Holland's D-Jax labels. His credentials are excellent and his music is stright to the point in the way we at Pro-Jex like so much.
The EP opens with Justins's plea for space as he travels on London's Tube System, followed by two minimal snappy jacking items. 'Homage' closes the EP with a track that doffs its cap to some of the early Detroit masters.
Although this guy is from the UK it seems that his sensibility lies fairly firmly in an area populated by some of the makers of classic stomp: Chicago, Detroit, Sheffield or Berlin.
This is tough jacking techno with a twist of British humor. 'avin'it!

St Germain - Tourist - 22-Sep-02 11:11 PM
from promo flyer:

After a five-year layoff from recording, Ludovic Navarre, alias St Germain, is back with a new album, Tourist, on the prestigious jazz label Blue Note.

About this project, released on 05.05.00, St Germain offers only a few details: "There will only be four purely house tracks. The whole record will be a continuation of my work, with machines and musicians, live and sampled sounds." Guest artist include guitarist Ernest Ranglin and percussionist Idrissa Diop.

Blending jazz with deep house grooves and acid jazz breaks, you only have to listen to this album once to realise that St Germain's music transcends fashions and trends. This is the summer chill-out album of 2000.
