Ministry Of Primitive Arts - Prototype EP - 22-Oct-09 08:02 AM
We are talking about well known duo, which has built their careers apart in other tremendous projects like X-Dream, The Delta, Desonanz, Noosphere...
Niels Paschen and Marcus C. Maichel decided to join their forces and create a unique style project called "Ministry of primitive arts", in order to give the world their vision of perfect sound which is recorded on debut EP "Prototype" and it will be released on one of the German major labels, Nachtstrom Schallplatten. And their vision is dry techno beat tinged with elements of deep trance oscillations and recognizable style and arrangement of tracks. You can hear that incredibly strong and massive bassline is a little bit separated from other elements and it's playing a leading role in this story, like some superstar in Holywood movie. Whole groove is sitting in "backstage", behind the bassline, so that other elemnents have more freedom to become main creators of atmosphere in songs, playing their role perfectly. It's so impressive to hear many simulations of old science fiction lasers in totally analogue form. Even now, when they are using a new way of filtering options, you can still "smell the industrial rust". Tracks sound "fat" and dark enough. I believe that club walls will agree with my oppinion. Even at my home, I can sense the fulfillment of every dark corner or low lighted areas of club which are possesed by deep and massively compressed rhythm. Perfect monotony of tracks is what thrilled me the most!! This is the sound where oscillations and changes are needless, you just need to keep on driving, without traffic-lights that can stop you. Open highway. Sweet monotony is the most important thing here and thats what makes this genre complex, to keep attention of listener without loosing him. To make him beg every second for just one kick more and more and more and never to stop! Hypnosis. And to be totally honest, I hope that this newly formed project will not stand on this one release. No. I hope that this is just one big "Good evening" but not a "Good night". New techno era continues.

Edu Yattah - Untitled Trance EP - 14-Jun-09 05:25 PM
Dance n Dust is for a long time Israeli label that is always offering us in their way imagined world of progressive music that is slowly reaching every style, step by step. After Lots of successful albums, compilations and EPs, this time we have a chance of listening to an EP of one of their artists, Edu Yattaha, which is named in a very interesting and simple way "Untitled Trance EP".

This young Argentinian emphasised with his 1st track and its kick, what is this thing about. Progressive mixture of house thematics and degression but fallowed by trance motives packed into subtle production leaves us an impression of true summer sound and beaches of hits which shouldn't leave us surprised providing the origins of the artist. I cant listen without noticing the lead of latino motives too as in drums and as in melodies. With vocal support, I find it that some tracks should in a commercial world carry the title of potential summer hit. So, in that way i realise the versatileness in expressings of an artist. That's in my humble opinion, one big plus.

The style that this release is presenting is being promoted a lot and also defined in the world's electronic scene so i believe that this release will find its own way to some big open air parties as well as in club happenings.

Yotopia - Connect The Dots - 14-Jun-09 05:21 PM
Iboga kitchen is releasing again one of its big specialties. The mania of balloon basslines and kicks, with following crackling elements and ups like sprays, didn’t pass on this progressive trance band. This production revolution is spreading from project to project; however, artists are implementing things in their music in a different way. Yotopia is one of those projects that created something great out of those new waves. Not very minimal nor much away from the progressive style of trance associated with Yotopia in the past. They only mixed pretty and useful new elements and in an extraordinary professional way came close to presenting us with something new. I usually don’t like it when an artist crosses over to another genre and without accumulating experience and recognition, tries to “make it” there. But this is not the case here. On this album, the music is very carefully classified. It’s like clubbish dialect of open air moments. The arrangement of the tracks is very well done so the listeners would enjoy the whole track and at the same time DJs could find it easy to use them. One thing DJs would have to pay attention to, is choosing what they mix with Yotopia. It’ll have to have extraordinary good production, because tracks from Yotopia's album simply explode with crystal clear production! I am truly satisfied with Iboga’s decision on releasing this album. The match of artist and label here is perfect.

Recommendation: Basically I would recommend this album without choosing out any tracks as favorites, but my heart says, if anyone is interested, that I’ll start this album with track number 8-Monitor. Feel free to enjoy!!!

Polaris (3) - Deep The Drum - 14-Jun-09 05:19 PM
Dreaming. Progressive music used to have a sound like this once, back in 2005, which was my favorite of this style. Polaris is a very successful project, especially these days, with many bookings and releases and very good music. I’m very happy with this release, because Polaris holds a real progressive trance groove, as it should be. Polaris does that without mixing any of the new techno elements with minimalist colors on it. It’s not that I don't like these, but here we are talking about real progressive trance music, which is what this album actually is. The name fits totally with the concept of the tracks on the album. There are so many deep elements in atmosphere and groove here. The pads and leads are pure morning treasure and make this composition extraordinary. The biggest impression was left on me by the collaboration with excellent artists such as Zen Mechanics, Voyager & Bamboo Forest. These sure add an extra flavor here.

I should also mention the great vocal in The Realm, which takes me about 10 years back in time and brings back memories with the sample "Hot like the sun and wet like the rain". It’s taken from C’hantell’s The Realm. I really liked one of the mixes of this track when I was younger. Sometimes, memories can decide which track would be your favorite on an album. Besides classic progressive beat, Polaris also bring us a bit faster and harder tracks, but still keeps the progressive groove, even if there’s a rolling bassline oscillation. I totally like it. Focusing on the melodies and background effects in the tracks shows that this guy takes his job so seriously. I can hear many projects with exactly the same lines and melodies in tracks, and this is not case on this release at all. No matter that software today gives anyone thousands and thousands of samples, loops and templates served on a plate, its easy to notice what sounds serious and what sounds like packing lines with finished material downloaded free from internet.

I used to like this kind of progressive trance music but with time it almost disappeared. This album brings that old feeling, which I used to feel 4-5 years ago. I just hope that I will have an opportunity to hear Polaris on some of festivals this summer. Till then I will enjoy this CD for sure!!!

Recommendation: All in all, this release deserves to get huge attention from trance listeners all over the globe. It has a lot of different elements in one package, great production and sound work, and really DJ & dancefloor friendly tracks.
Favorite tracks: 1, 3, 4, 8.

Fuzzion - Free Tibet EP - 31-Mar-09 07:23 AM
We are dealing here with a very advanced and extraordinary product of the new techno revolution that includes an essence of every kind of sound. When we say Fuzzion we think about many earlier releases in the respected Boshke Beats, as well as in other leading labels that presented us the sound of this talented Russian producer, Vladimir Kozlov.
This new EP on vinyl from Boshke Beats, brings lots of tricks and melodies on dry and minimal beat, which will be well accepted on many clubs. Every track is full of spontaneous compositions with different pads and melodies that in certain moments transform into effects and create the concept of the track. What personally thrilled me was the fact that unlike in previous releases, here Vladimir gave himself plenty of freedom to experiment. We can also discover many symphonic elements of strong ambient character that are connected to the techno style only by beat. It’s one perfect combination of different styles of music. I would be happy to DJ some of these tracks, on some of the alternative / chill stages on festivals.
Although I’m not a producer, I would venture to say that the production of this release doesn’t need many comments in any aspect. Everything is simply perfect. Crackling, crystal clear and treated with care. The length of the tracks, in my opinion, plays very important role and is strong enough for the mix.
The energy can be seen in every sample and emotional elements aren’t excluded either. And then the inevitable distortion in some parts will bring euphoria to the dance floor with what I call pleasantly irritating sounds. I simply love and fully support that kind of communication by sound. I also really like the vocal pad in Chordless. It’s like a strawberry on the top of whipped cream of some fine but complex dessert. If perfection exists, I’d describe it exactly like this.

Recomendation: Well, I recommend the whole release, but I must choose a favourite, I’ll single out the tracks on the A Side- Closer, with its extremely emotional theme; And No Address, where also emotional moments dominate and make beautiful 6 minutes. Extraordinary record. Deserves lots of dancefloor moments.
