Yesterdays Obsession - The Phycle / Complicated Minds - 28-Apr-08 10:30 AM
The phycle is a moody/dark 60s texan psych track. Over a steady 4/4 beat comes a layer of grumbling guitars and lots of spacey-sounding organ, as the singer intones some kind of story of thousand-year peace, time & space, lost love, returns from the dead and what-have-you. The band turns up the juice on three different breaks, even having time for a fuzz guitar solo before always going back to the somber spaciness of the song.

This is fabulous. And very different, not many lps of this time still sound so good years and years on, the cover alone was enough to get me interested. The track "Brain of Oscar Panizza" is like a breakbeat/techno track from today, full of strange samples, electronics and phased breakbeats. Made in 1977 this nutter was obviously beamed in from another time and told to make an LP no one would like until about twenty years on. Essential.
