Heads up! Heads up! Solid EP alert!

This one is a keeper. Each piece has such a distinct personality, yet they all tie together so well, clearly of the same family. Basically summarised as follows:

Babar: hyped up on the red cordial, this one is bound to run wild on the dancefloor.

Dumbo: the meandering weirdo. Wanders slowly about the place clearly in its own spaced-out little world.

Pellefant: the most underestimated member perhaps? at first glance seems to be pretty mild, but grows up into a cold-hearted little monster

Snabeln: such a highly emotional family member. With large sections of techy groove thrown in for good measure, makes me think they're perhaps bi-polar?

Brilliantly produced EP. A staggering amount of different emotions displayed across the release, with most of it being done entirely with instruments (Pellefant being the exception).

And the short tale about the 'Elektrofants' is a quint touch, makes you wish you had the physical version rather than the digital one : )

Well I guess one man's trash really is another's treasure.

Im of the exact opposite opinion to Turnoff. I think James Zabiela has excelled here. He takes the original track and turns it into a techy monster (albeit a goofy, friendly one) which teases you for so long, before morphing into this great big bounce about two thirds in. Which in turn is juxtaposed excellently against the lush pads of the original, though continuing to keep with Zabiela's techy aesthetic.

I don't mind the original, but I certainly wouldn't say it's Sasha's finest hour (and Im not familiar with other work by Charlie May) - nor this release's.

As for the Tolfrey & Sylvester remix, it's unlike the other two versions completely. They take it down a deep, throbbing vein, with little hints at the original melody during the breakdown. I imagine the bass and kick would sound sensational on a truly impressive club system.

Congratulations to Renaissance! A brilliant release with three very different, yet undeniably related remixes - each clearly intended for a different club, crowd or time of the evening.

Dandelion is one hell of a tough track.Though highly repetitive, it features a chunky groove that - when it drops, with a belching sound not too far from Claude Von Stroke's "Deep Throat" - packs a hell of a punch.

However, it's the B side, Snapdragon, that is the true masterpiece on this release.
Truly an incredible piece of bumping minimal techno, it starts off with an icy synth, that soon builds into a solid bouncing groove later complimented by a hollow compacted synth. Blending together perfectly, while managing to make room for several dramatic build-ups and continuing to evolve throughout the piece, it's a tune that should definitely be heard by any lover of minimal!

The Juggernauts are starting to make quite the name for themselves here in Australia, with many members of the local media claiming their debut album (Dystopia - scheduled for international release in 2008) is the album of the year.... and listening to this, their first EP, you can see what everyone is talking about!

"Raised By Wolves" is an incredibly catchy ElectroClash/Rock/Something-esque tune. Featuring floating arpeggio synths, driving guitars and some incredibly catchy backing vocals (yaaah- yah- yah), it has it all.

Fire Below is loaded with vocoded voices and chunky bass guitar.

Safari World is a wicked little filtered house number. In my opinion, it's worth chasing the EP down for this alone. Though it's only 2.5 mins long, it's a damn groovy little tune, featuring little vocal snippets and a definite French vibe.

Deadly Venom is the fastest song on here by far, blending a kind of New Wave vibe with some kind of grungy rock. Wicked stuff.

It's also worth mentioning that there's another version of this floating around that comes with the bonus tracks "Fire Below( Wolfdog Remix)" and "Raised By Wolves (Spodemonic Remix)" as well as the Raised By Wolves video.
Spodemonic's remix messes with the backing vocals in a really cool way and gives the song a more synth-driven kick and bassline

Heads up!
DJ Q's remix is out of control! Total speed garage animal. It takes the original (already a pretty tough sounding tune) and turns it into an absolute monster. Highly recommended (enjoy it while you can, cause Im sure it will be played to death)!

the Dave Spoon remix was floating around on Youtube a while before it was officially released. While the production sounds tight, personally I don't think it suits the lyrics at all. Would have worked better with something else.
