Into house etc since Glastonbury 1994 conversion listening to Orbital on the then "NME stage". Still got a lot of 12's to add.

The most interesting and appealing mix I have listened to for many years. I listened to both CDs all the way through twice and then focussed on CD1, listening to it every night for about a week. Now Im giving the second CD a chance to grow on me and it is working. Some "sections" as they are called, rather than tracks, have clear transitions between the tracks used and others are a continuous though constantly evolving blend of the tracks. There are more moments which grab you on this mix than you can shake a stick at.
Whilst almost perfect, there are a few things which dont float my boat, so if Im to give a thorough review I need to mention them.
About the last 13 minutes of CD1 is beatless which leaves me wishing a beat would kick back in right to the end. Section 8 of CD1 has an organ track in it which is remiscent of 1970s TV gameshows and, for me, doesnt work in the mix. Also, almost all the vocal tracks in the mix such as "R U OK" dont work for me. On CD2 Carl Craigs "At Les" and the final track "Mare Frigoris" both seem out of place, even in a mix which manages to vary styles brilliantly. Still 5/5 as its head and shoulders above everything else Ive heard lately.

Orbital - Blue Album - 08-Oct-09 01:27 PM
Worth buying for the one amazing track, "One Perfect Sunrise". "You Lot" is OK and all the rest of the tracks are fillers in my opinion. Of course this album is essential for Orbital fans whether its great or just OK (my rating). However, I got into dance music because of Orbitals gig at Glastonbury in 1994 on the (then) NME stage so they are very special to me. What an amazing evening, Ill remember it till I die.

Craig Richards, Lee Burridge - Tyrant - 12-Aug-09 02:07 PM
In my top 10 mix compilations ever. Ive never heard so many styles mixed together so well. I still listen to this after 9 years! CD 1 is particularly good. One way I judge the quality of a mix is by the extent of the impression that it leaves on me when its finished and you really get that effect with this. It will be different for each listener but it will be strong. Another thing I noticed is how so many things are missed by the listener on the first few listens. You seem to notice other sounds as you listen again and again, which is magic!
Essential!

Oliver Huntemann - Play! 01 [Live] Sao Paolo / Brazil - 12-Aug-09 01:49 PM
This has the most annoying crowd noise on it that I have ever heard! You can only hear about 5 people but this one guy can be heard above all others going "woah" over and over!
As for the music, its cool and builds from the more melodic to the quite hard. For me, Jurgens "love it" appears too early in the mix and Huntemann mixes out of it before the track peaks, which for me is a shame as I love the last third of that track. He may have been mixing from build to build as DJs sometimes do but if it wasnt deliberate then it was a mistake, for me anyway.

Sasha - Global Underground 009: San Francisco - 09-Aug-09 07:57 AM
There are only two of the GU mix compilations that are absolutely essential for collectors who appreciate a really well sculptored mix and this is the first. The other is GU13, also by Sasha. CD1 does it especially. Great tracks and great sequencing but its the mixing which leaves you stunned by the time the CD draws to a close. This was Sasha at the top of his game for me. I think its ironic that this is unsurpassed by his Ableton work. Im all for technical progress but compare this and GU13 to Fundacion!
