Amon Tobin - Supermodified - 08-Jun-05 11:32 AM
This is a truly outstanding record. Pure atmospheric drum and bass that is NOT boring and repetitive, but rather exciting and uplifting. Tobin mixes old funk drums and snare rolls with vintage guitar/piano/noise samples, dark DnB synths and deep atmospheric soundscapes. Favorite track is Golfer Vrs Boxer.
Various - Rephlexions! An Album Of Braindance! - 24-Oct-04 03:31 PM
A truly authentic and great introduction into the world of IDM from the best artists of the scene and by one of the most exciting record label of the genre. Almost every track on this comp is a winner. Highlights include Goodnight Toby, Smack Em Up, Remember This and Mangle 11.
Shitmat - Killababylonkutz - 02-Oct-04 05:01 PM
One more of those amen mashing records in the vein of whats being released on planet mu (Remarc, Venetian Snares, etc)and similar to what Kid 606 has done with his last few albums. The amen gets extra choppage on each tune of the album but thats about all there is, the samples are varied and surprising (Michael Jackson, Ace of Base, Rocky...) but they seem just thrown on the top. This disc lacks some real production and coherence. Plus, hearing the same acapella on each song gets really tiring at the end.
Tim Hecker - Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again - 02-Oct-04 05:01 PM
A truly sublime piece of sound. Guitar drones, glitches and bleeps melt into lush, liquid ambient soundscapes. The thematic of the sky appearing on the cover of the album is fully representative of the attitude of the music.
