Aril Brikha - Ex Machina - 27-Oct-09 03:30 AM
Long time since his first LP and what memorable one that was. Departure in Time is one of the finest Detroit albums to not come out of the D, without a doubt. On his sophomore effort has delivered are incredibly good album, however it does not compare to Departures. To call some of it trance would be misleading, as trance has become a caricature of what it was, the music is definitely hypnotic in parts though. In the best possible way. Aril is a master technician and totally excels and giving his music depth, drive and emotion. It really is top drawer stuff in most places. Check Leaving Me and Kept Within for Brikha at his former best. Superb album then but lacks in parts some of the refinement and incredible subtlety of its predecessor. Will be considered a classic for sure and already fetching in excess of 30 euros on Discogs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Charles Webster - Born On The 24th Of July - 17-Oct-09 03:59 AM
One of my favorite producers ever. Period. Charles created such a beautiful album, meaningful lyrics sky high production values and full of emotion. This took some flack back when released, grand dad house or some term like that I read in some mag, this is truly mature deep house and down tempo for people with taste and refinement, for them that know. Thats all there is to it. Gorgeous album by one of the Masters.
Morgan Geist - Environ: Into A Separate Space - 17-Oct-09 03:49 AM
Classic Morgan Geist from way back when, inspired possibly by some of the great UK producers and of course nodding to Detroit too. Funky, alien in places but always engaging and so very soulful, the man that would be Metro Area was producing some of the finest techno around at this time. This and The Driving Memoirs on Clear are essential listening and buying to anyone that loves electronic music. Very highly recommended people. Thanks Morgan, beautiful stuff indeed. Superb.
Arnold Jarvis - The Collection - 17-Oct-09 03:36 AM
What a voice, I will never forget the day or was it night? that I heard Inspiration the collaboration with Kerri Chandler, I think it was 95 in some London after hours....It hit me right in the core. What an amazing and truly inspiring record. Well its on this compilation in its glorious full version and a whole load of Arnolds classics. Great, great vocals that sound just right and delivered masterfully by the man that can...Mr.Jarvis. Class act. Superb collection all round.
Claude Young - Soft Thru - 16-Oct-09 02:03 PM
Totally agree with previous review, I am late to this amazing album but discovered it and my collection is better of for it without a doubt. Purest Detroit techno and hands down an absolute classic, nicely balanced between contemplative pieces and floor devastating numbers. Essential and then some, one complaint though....It could really do with two or three more tracks. I have to say that Elpsyia put out some absolute awesome albums by some great great artists. Brilliant.
