This is the main account of SubSystem.
A.K.A. DJ Yarn

When I joined Discogs in 2003, I used this account to catalogue my main favorite music: UK Hardcore 91 – 94. Since then I have used Discogs on a more and more frequent basis, to the point where it is my homepage and I log on every day!

I have now created more accounts to catalogue AND SELL the other styles of records that I have collected. To date, all the records I have on various Discogs accounts exceed 750. I have many more to add too!

All accounts have only vinyl 12” singles added to them – This is my preferred format, since I DJ on Technics SL1200’s.

By all accounts, I am oldskool. The last record I bought new was in 2002. I no longer collect new music, it largely does not interest me (though I listen to the radio every day), I can leave it rather than take it.

I do collect old 12’s though, mainly at car boot sales, 2nd hand shops, Ebay occasionally. I am a sucker for old vinyl, even damaged records or doubles, I find it hard to let them go.

The following accounts represent my 12” collection:

As of June 2007, many of these accounts do not have my entire collections added, or all my items for sale

SubSystem_80s

Did I mention, I used to run a disco. Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s Disco’s were done with Technics decks and hundreds of records. In the late 80’s I would spend many a Sunday morning at Car boot sales and Flee markets, buying up ‘essential’ records for my Disco. This account is the net result of the 80’s pop that i have bought.

SubSystem_Oldskool

Around about 1988 I started buying dance 12” that were more club oriented. Any naff records that were required for the disco were bought on 7” vinyl. I have tried to keep the number of Discogs accounts to a sensible level, so this account is a bit of a mish mash, but in general it is dance tunes from the late 80’s to 1991/2.

And then in 1992 I was exposed to some Breakbeat Hardcore! I was instantly hooked and having nearly mastered Beatmixing, began my dance music buying hobby.

I remember my first ‘Propper Hardcore’ purchase from Plastic Surgery in Maidstone, was
Krome & Time - This Sound Is For The Underground (Remix)
And
EQ - The Graphic EP (Remixes)

From that time on, I have collected and DJ’ed UK Hardcore. I played a few local Parties in Kent at the time and went to the local Raves like Arcadia in Leysdown and Word Dance in Lydd.
I had a renaissance around 2002 when I discovered Ebay and bought at least 300 records. I probably spent over £1000 on Hardcore from Ebay. I started a website, TheBiggestRaveOnEarth (now a sales outlet for my Discogs sales) and released a series of mixes on the internet ‘The Biggest Rave’ series. These still come up in search engines if you Google.
This account features UK Breakbeat hardcore from 1990 to 1994.

Around 1992, commercial house music really found it’s feet. It got more radio play and suddenly became the main stream. As a working DJ, I bought stacks of the stuff and still love it now! Personally 1994 – 1996 is the golden era for me, as this coincides with my weekly clubbing around Maindstone and especially The Zone in Gillingham on a Thursday, with Martin Stone on the decks. In 1997, I went started at the University of Hertfordshire and quickly became established as one of the main DJ’s on the scene. I called myself DJ Yarn and had a bloody good time! I have a few more records in the collection after the time that I gave up DJing as a result of my obsessive compulsive boot fair buys, but I left University in 2000 and stopped gigging in about 2001.
This account features commercial club tunes from 1990 to 2001.

SubSystem_Jungle

And after Hardcore came Jungle. It defiantly was not called D&B in 1994. Still visiting Plastic Surgery on a weekly basis (and now with a job) I started to collect and DJ Jungle. I got hooked on Dark sounding Amen records. I stopped collecting Jungle in about 1998, for several reasons. I had become disillusioned with the Jungle raves as they were too moody, I also think that the music started to stagnate in 1998 and rehash and remix itself to death. This account features Jungle tunes from 1994 to 1998.

SubSystem_FunkyHouse

So after giving up on Jungle, and getting more exposure as a club DJ, I started to collect ‘funky house’ tunes. These were mainly Disco influenced and fitted in well with the commercial dance tunes. I think like every other house DJ in 1998, I was a big Defected records fan and well in to my filter disco!!
This account features underground House tunes from 1994 to 2000.

SubSystem_HardDance

As a Raver at heart, I enjoyed the Hard House explosion that we had around the year 2000. This coincided with moving to Southampton and clubbing it large every week. Around about 2002 a magnificent club night ran called the Paradise Club, which inspired me to buy and mix Hard Trance and Hard House.
This account features tunes from 1998 to 2003.

I currently buy entire collections of any Dance music genre, sift through the records, sell the ones that I do not want and keep the ones I do. I still find it fascinating looking through a mystery box of 12”s and am always surprised by what I find when I research them on Discogs. I regularly contribute to Discogs and have added over 100 releases.

If you wish to buy from me, please visit the accounts that suit your music taste and see what I have for sale.

I currently use SubSystem_ClubDance as a bargain clearance where most records are 50p. On this account Postage is fixed at £4.00 for 4 records to the UK. The other accounts generally have rarer records for sale.

K.W.S. - Please Don't Go - 12-Sep-06 12:01 AM
This release may be looked upon as pure cheese by hardcore collectors, but the record has 2 great underground 'mashup' style tracks on the B side. These tracks were released before this record as a twelve on the label 'The One After D'. The guys used the name '3V' as the artist. I have seen the KWS record get overlooked many times when it is for sale, and given the very low value this record would demand (for what is essentially a mass selling novelty record), it is well worth the money for the B side!

I wonder how they got away with all those stolen samples on a mass selling record!

Rachel Wallace - I Feel This Way / Tell Me Why - 02-Dec-04 08:05 PM
It was about time that "I Feel This Way" (Beefed up mix) was re-released, after original copies were going on Ebay for £50. At least Rachel Wallace and crew can reep some of the benifit of their popularity! When my copy arrived, I found that the labels have been put on the wrong sides, but it doesnt change the fact that this record has one of the most spine tingling piano / vocal riffs i'v ever heard!

Dave Charlesworth - Energizer 4 - 12-Aug-03 04:30 PM
Mad Mash Up Hardcore featuring some other big tunes around at the time. This tune is wicked! Etched in Vinyl says "Merry Christmas 1992".

Slipstreem - We Are Raving - The Anthem - 08-Aug-03 07:46 PM
Another mad silly rave tune that made it on to Top of the pops in those crazy days of 1992!

Based on Rod Stewart's We Are Sailing.

Cheesy, but has a wicked synth riff.

Shut Up And Dance* Featuring Peter Bouncer - Raving I'm Raving - 08-Aug-03 07:26 PM
I remember that this record went straight in the UK Top 40 at Number 1. It got banned instantly. Dont know why, it didnt really do Mark Cohen any injustice. After all He's let loads of other people cover this song.

The bass line does it for me on this one!
