Reviews & Discussion:
Challenging nuFUNKelectrotechnobreaksclash on the A side.
Deathface is the most harsh, but still very enjoyable (as DJ Scud do, in another style). Inseminov is the most funky, take the best of electroclash, best of house, best of nuskool breaks, add some clever cuts and you end up with a groovy dancefloor clasher. nuFUNKYtechstepcoreclash rollercoasters full of edits and fueled with funk on the B side. Perisalt knows how to please someone who's been disapointed with the amount of d&b being released for the last 5 years. Sticky Buds is probably my fav. It has some energy you won't find in many records, like the other tracks, it's hard to describe, but you can't resist shaking your arse while listening to this. Eclect(ron)ic stuff !
the originals on the a side are 2 very different tracks; -melvin is an strange ballad into the 8 bit computers land. -beatback is a storming, slow, acidic, ruff breabeat, pre-grime oddity, with a huge breakdown in the middle, slowly restarting on a hip-hop beat and re-accelerating to punch again. the two remixes are also both very differents: - the "Alan Oldham's Pure Sonik Remake" is very minimal, true to alan oldman's style. -the "Si Begg's Dumb Ass Mix" is a total electro breaks smasher. "New Day" have a weird-ish feel, by the fact that the vocal samples and the sweepy synth line are a bit out of tune, but don't take it wrong, it sounds actually really good !The two other tracks are better IMO. "Tropic" is a Detroit flavoured oldskool Jungle hymn. Grimey, epic and ravey. "Camouflage", a tribal Detroit Techno track lurking towards early 90s Techno and UK Hardcore. It starts slowly, then the synth stabs come into action and it builds up and down. Simple, fun and melancolic. Overall, a quality record from Fragile, despite what the rating seems to show. This record is a little gem into the electronic field;
The A-side are two techno based tracks, the A1 is a cold,dry and minimalist piece, while the second track ends in a jeff mills-esque fashion. The B-side is the most interresting one; the two first tracks are both "electro-fashioned" techno, full of bleeps and sick chords. The third track is a beautiful, deep techno track, based on a funky bassline, in a pure detroit style. "A1 Logical Drums" is an ill techstep trip, encountering sick soundscapes and a roaring bassline halfway thru the trip.
"B1 Romance Of Age", a 'true' drum & bass track, slightly deep, with round basslines and warm chords. "B2 Emotive Information" decreases the speed to builds up in a breaking electro piece of industrial funk. | ||||
You can hear it near the end of the track (it's the gated female voice).
Other tracks probably include other samples but i haven't been able to identify them yet.
Quality record btw !!!
