Various - Space Invasion - 10-Apr-09 11:40 AM
Odd compilation from 1980 compiling often disparate artists under a running theme of Outer Space. Made even odder by the fact that the first track is Hot Chocolate's 'No Doubt About It', which has no obvious space connection. It soon gets on track with the excellent 'Theme From Space Invaders/Firecracker'and for the most part is a great compilation which contains a few blinders that are worth putting up with having to skip the two Dollar tracks ('Magic Fly', 'Dancing In Outer Space'.)
Aural Exciters - My Boy Lollipop - 01-Dec-08 09:28 AM
Whilst the A side to this record really is deserving of the low mark that it seems to have here, the B side 'Paradise' is a lost gem of almost Glam Rock written by Kid Creole. It's got the stomp and shout and a wiggy saxaphone break plus a singalong chorus. Why they placed it hiding behind a woeful cover of a song that really didn't need covering in the first place is anyone's guess.
Helium Robots - Metallic Dawn - 01-Dec-08 08:56 AM
One of the best things to come out on Dissident so far. Throbbing bass, sycopated snare hits and a slow and stripped back feel that lends itself as easily to two or three am (eternal) as it does to the start of the night where everyone seems to play it. That second of silence in the breakdown is sublime and dropped at the right time this tune can make a crowd erupt. Definitely worth hunting down if you don't already have it in your box.
