Tom Silvester - Deep And Wide - 30-Sep-09 06:07 AM
This is absolutely superb house music or IDM or whatever label you wish to pin on it, really well put together musical ideas for both home listening, in a club or anywhere any time really.. the songs on this are not mixed into each other but blended from one to the next so that the record can be played through and seems as thus. I think (although i could be mistaken) that this is Tom Silvester's major work and is without doubt a case of quality over quantity (and quantity over quality being such a feature of this genre). If you are into electronic/dance music in any way you must check out this little gem.
Relief Records - 29-Sep-09 09:32 AM
Cult status this label has attained and most deservedly so, not always the most accessible of music but then personally that's what i want. The vinyl's themselves are heavy and the whole package smells beautiful. Back in the day i was more into the more open Cajual sound and had only picked up a handful of Relief releases but have now turned my attention to Relief from the 1990's which seems to be a timeless sound, i love the artwork and colors used for the label. the musical range of Relief records is extremely broad, from stripped down jack tracks, jazz infused house music all the way towards well rough trance like tech music and many many stops between. Well i suppose if your reading this you will have at least some idea of the sonic sound scape on offer. This is proper late night club music, the artist's who released on Relief seemed to really know there stuff and of course the same can be said about the boss himself.
Slip 'n' Slide - 29-Sep-09 09:10 AM
What a great label and if you are serious about having a proper house music collection your going to have some slip 'n' slide in there. For me, I'm only interested in vinyl so don't know to much about the CD compilation aspect of the label. I'm living in London now and most records in the Slip 'n' Slide catalogue can be got for a pound or under so I'm working on getting them all, there is some excellent gospel house and garage in there and if you want proper house at a reasonable price look no further than Slip 'n' Slide. A lot of the stuff they released over the years seems to be have been licensed from other labels mainly from stateside.
Subliminal - 29-Sep-09 08:58 AM
I really like this label, they have cut out there own corner and while it would be pushing it to say they have there own sound the label has its own thing going. My biggest problem with these slabs of vinyl when the label started up (i was living in Dublin at the time) was the price, imports so hence a price of over 10 euro, now in London and nearly any record from this label can be picked up for under a pound in very good condition and i am very happily on my way to collecting the whole catalogue, these are great records to practice mixing with and there are some genuine classic tracks in the catalogue.
Peace Treaty - Respect Each Other - 27-Sep-09 02:29 PM
'you got, you got, you got to respect, oh, oh yeah'. By jingo, they dont make em like this anymore, only joking, cause those in the know still do, what a classic little number. Tracks like this are more than just the bread and butter of house music, their the back bone, just play this kind of music where people want to dance and all the girls will get up and all else will fall into place. Proper house music this, if your a producer and have a bit of writers block go and check this out. I remember going dancing back in the day and it was stuff like this that did the damage, no silly big breakdowns or smarty pants production, just pure dancing, Respect
