Foolish, Friendly & Forgetful - The Drive - 25-Mar-05 02:38 AM
Often (incorrectly) credited to the Idjut Boys, this is one of the best things that they (n)ever recorded. A re-edit so well executed that it doesn't sound like one, 'The Drive' was (according to my very well placed source) created on the night that England beat Holland 4-1 in the 1996 European Championships (check the run-out groove message on the A-Side that simply says “England 4 - Holland 1”). Most of the copies of this are in Japan, (as it was sold primarily through an exclusive deal with Cisco records of Tokyo), it was a huge hit on the Japanese underground scene in late 1996, as well as a big tune at the Blue Note in Hoxton Square . Very hard to find, but well worth searching out as an example of the genre, the hand written white label promo is (obviously) as rare as rocking horse shit...

Various - Street Sounds Edition 3 - 24-Mar-05 02:57 PM
IMHO one of the best Street Sounds LPs. It has a very distinctive early 8Ts boogie sound all over it, like suddenly everyone could afford bass synths! Every track is a sure-fire dancefloor filler. The Gap Band's finest moment, "Outstanding" (SO much better than most of the cheese they are known for in the UK) is the only slowish number, everything else is 110-120ish bpm ass wiggling, good times disco boogie that you would have to be dead from the waist down not to find yourself moving to. They don't make compilation albums like this anymore. If you are looking to learn about this important time in Dance Music's history, then pick up a copy of this (and Volumes 1,2,4,5 and 6, maybe 7, don't worry about the later ones, they ain't a patch on the first 6 or 7) on eBay, put it on your deck, get some friends round, turn it up load enough to piss off your parents/neighbours and dance the night/day away...
