Recoil - Liquid - 26-Feb-04 03:58 PM
Liquid is a truly excellent record. Even with the use of various vocalists Alan Wilder is able to blend all the elements together masterfully into a cohesive work. In the end it all adds up to what one might consider a cinematic experience.

Hanzel Und Gretyl - Über Alles - 26-Feb-04 03:27 PM
The influences Hanzel Und Gretyl picked up after their tour with Rammstein are clearly evident on this release. Vas and Loopy still manage to twist it into something else entirely and make the sound their own. Über Alles was quite a leap from their previous records, but it's easily able to hold its own against Transmissions From Uranus.

Hanzel Und Gretyl - Transmissions From Uranus - 25-Feb-04 07:32 PM
If I had to pick my favorite record of the thriving mid-90's coldwave era it would be a tough choice between "Transmissions From Uranus" and Chemlab's "Burn Out At The Hydrogen Bar." It truly is excellent from beginning to end. In a genre where nearly every song is about war, death, heroin, suicide, or some other depressing topic it's incredibly refreshing to come across a band with a sense of humor. Due to a legal battle with the now defunct Energy Records the band was basically held hostage and unable to release anything new. Finally, in 2003, they inked a deal with Metropolis Records who put out "Über Alles." Having all but forgotten about Hanzel Und Gretyl I was thrilled to learn they were releasing new material and touring. The new record re-ignited my love of "Transmissions..." and, in my mind, confirmed it as a classic in the genre. An absolute must-have for industrial fans, particularly those big into coldwave.

Various - Hymns Of The Warlock - A Tribute To Skinny Puppy - 25-Feb-04 07:12 PM
"Hymns Of The Worlock" is a perfect example as to why no one should ever release tribute records. There are some quality bands in their own right on here covering songs by one of the greatest industrial bands ever and hardly anything on the CD is worth hearing. Unfortunately, the album desperately suffers from "people will buy it because it's Skinny Puppy"-itis.

Klute (2) - Excepted - 25-Feb-04 07:02 PM
The enjoyment one gets from this album is due, in large part, to how absolutely ridiculous and what a grand depatrture from Claus' other work it is. There is nothing particularly brilliant about any of the tracks, but it is somewhat amusing when one can write songs with guitars so abrasive they almost make Ministry's "Psalm 69" sound like elevator music. The megaheavy cover of "Tequila" is a nice touch.
