Saint Etienne - 31-Jan-04 07:06 PM
Believe it or not the Et are one of the best live bands ever. Forget the two blokes behind keyboards and a dolly-bird singer that cant really sing - I thought the same thing before I first went to see them. How wrong I was - they are a full live band setup and Sarah Cracknell is an unbelievably good singer. I was stunned. The whole thing was religious experience and has ruined all their records for me because as a live act they are so much more powerful.

One Dove - Why Don't You Take Me - 31-Jan-04 06:08 PM
Contains the best version of Dolly Partons Jolene that you will ever hear. Its kind of a tripped-out dubby reggae version. Worth a listen. Also has a hauntingly beautiful fade-out on the last track. The sort of fade-out that you wish theyd drawn it out a bit longer.

Portishead - Sour Times - 31-Jan-04 05:55 PM
Worth having for the powerful song Its a Fire. Quite possibly one of Portisheads best songs. Fabulous vocals from Beth. A really beautiful and strangely uplifting track. You buy the single for the title song and you find one of those gems that you fall in love with quite unexpectedly hidden away as what we called a B-side in the old days. Once you hear it you will find it difficult to get out of your head and not in a bad way either. Pure class.

Various - Narcosis: A Journey Through The Outs And Ins Of Underground - 28-Jan-04 05:59 PM
A cracking compilation that was designed to be a mix of two halves. Great progressive house on one vinyl and cool chillout ambient tunes on the other. Great listening whatever mood you are in. This record has it all. A brilliant concept for a compilation album too.

League Unlimited Orchestra, The - Love And Dancing - 13-Jan-04 09:09 AM
If you need proof of how ahead of its time this album was Richard Xs saw no harm in sampling Things That Dreams Are Made Of in its entirety for his recent Finest Dreams single. Also George Michaels Shoot the Dog samples large chunks of Love Action. Both taken from this album. The League Unlimited still sounds fresh today.
